Can you feel any looseness between the pieces, or is it a resonance type thing?
I bet the whole thing is glued together, so its going to be very difficult to take apart. From the picture, it looks almost perfect. Are your sure the rattle is from there vs from the **** to shifter post?

There's a screw that holds the shift pattern disc on that's accessed from the inside through the bottom and then there's two screws that hold the aluminum to the carbon base. Here's what the shifter looks like disassembled ...

No ... but I had one out of a car and my inner 7 year old mechanic decided to take it apart to see what made it 'tick'
But now, if'n I do get a rattle, I'll know what to do. BTW .. the shifter 'disk' is a solid machined piece and is quite heavy ..probably what gives the technique shifter it's heft and solid feel.

I have the 996 "Turbo" shifter in my car, and it also has the same hefty feel - likely the same construction as well (with a machined top and a leather (not CF) wrapped body). Trying to keep the 7 year old guy way form the car right now....

JP, You rock, sir!!!! That's perfect. My rattle is definitely not from a loose screw at base of shifter that ties into the shift lever. My problem stems from a ?small? (normal?) vibration that is transmitting into a rattle between the carbon and aluminum. Pressure from the top or sides will eliminate 99% of rattle. I think I may need to just remove, eval and retorque.

Did you have 1/2 inch of black crud at inside end of shifter **** that had to be removed before you could get to the screw for the aluminum piece? What did you do to get it out so you could get to the screw? Also, did you have a bunch of white crud between the shift shaft and the inside carbon shaft? (I don't see any on your photos) Did you fill this space in and if so with what?

JP, thanks. I'll keep plugging away at removing the last layer of something jammed up in there (could have been me in the Fall) so that I can disassemble, eval and reassemble to see if this fixes the last of the buzzing.

^^^ I would think just getting it apart, cleaning all the mating surfaces and then using a bit of locktight on the screw threads when you put it back together should do the trick if there's no cracks or other problems ...
