Where to shop for a used Porsche?
*Updated with suggestions through 4/8/13*
I just recently began shopping for a used Porsche, and I'm attempting to come up with a list of all the places to look online. So far through browsing this site (along with 6speedonline and Pelican Parts) I've come up wtih:
Websites:
http://www.autotrader.com
http://www.cars.com
http://www.craigstlist.com
http://www.pca.org/TheMart/SearchAds.aspx
http://poc.westhostsite.com/classifieds
http://www.autotempest.com
https://rennlist.com/forums/marketplace/cars/search
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/
http://www.ebay.com/motors
http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/?mode=search_form
Dealers:
http://www.globalautosports.com/
http://www.holtmotorsports.com
http://sloancars.com
http://www.truspeedmotorcars.com
http://www.weissachautohaus.com
http://www.willhoitenterprises.com
http://www.highmarques.com
http://www.rpmsportscars.com
http://www.carsauto.com
http://www.cvluxurycars.com
http://Www.europeancollectibles.com
http://www.porsche.com/usa/approvedused/usedcarlocator/
http://www.motorcargroup.com
http://www.smithvolvo.com
http://www.tomferguson.com
http://www.victorymotorcars.com (proceed with caution)
http://www.exoticclassics.com/ (proceed with caution)
Are there any places I'm missing that have good reputations? Should I steer clear of any of the sites I listed?
Thanks

I think you've got a great list there!
http://www.pca.org/TheMart/SearchAds.aspx

edit: well, the PCA site requires a membership; and the POC site doesn't have as may listings as it did back when I was looking. Good luck in your search. If you've been here long, you know that rennlist is the best first stop, because the owners here are very conscientious and thorough in care and maintenance.

Sooner or later you'll find Victory Motorcars in Houston. Do a Google search on them before you decide to call or not.

I highly recommend Columbia Valley Luxury Cars ( www.cvluxurycars.com ). Nathan gets some very nice cars, know Porsches very well and is good to deal with. He is also a certified 993 fanatic.

Holt has always had good commnets.
Even though I did not buy a car from him he:
- took time to discuss 993 items with me
- made time from his busy day to help
You will pay a slight $ premium when dealing with him.
However, you have to take into account the value of that when:
- sifting though the pile of potentially less than honest sellers out there
- extra time needed on your part to find an acceptable car

It's handy to use a meta-search engine for Craigslists so you are searching them all at the same time, not one-by-one. Craigslist does not like this, so they shut down the one I used to use, but I have been trying http://www.searchalljunk.com/ and that seems to work.

Google with:
-site *craigslist.org
in the search terms does this as well. Example:
Porsche 993 -site *craigslist.org
<edit>Mike, I see that site searches more than just CL....so my suggestion is CL specific, unless you add those other names in.

Ebay. Also you could just google "used Porsche sales" and some will come up. There is a dealership in Texas called Spicewood but I have heard to be weary of him. Most dealers will never have cars as old as the 993s.

Porsche Cars North America is another source - you'ld be surprized at what the dealerships get as trade ins. A quick check shows a qty of 16 993s For Sale at P-car dealerships.
Often times its one way (expensive) to get close to a one owner vehicle

I found my car on autotrader.com, listed by a private seller.
Many of the local dealers, like Truspeed have their inventory listed at autotrader as well, so I found it to be a good snapshot of a wide range of cars.
While the savvy buyer can find a deal just about anywhere, I would be more wary of sites like ebay and craigslist, which is not to say they are NOT good places to shop, just use caution before sending any $$ off into the internet.
