Default Dipp'n the winter wheels

Thought I would post some pictures of my winter twists - I Plasti-dipped them to see who well the dip takes some winter abuse. The wheels are standard silver. I might have chosen the wrong color, I thought gun metal grey would look cool, but its too blue-grey for me. Black might have been better.

The finish is holding up great so far, its seen a fair amount of rain. I clean and sprayed both the inside and outside of the wheels for a complete coating.

The texture is a bit rough, so it's quite matt and catches a bit of dirt, but hides it well.

Of course, I have not tried to peel the wheels yet so not sure how hard it will be clean-up afterwards. I might just switch to black for next year and not bother to strip them if the finish is sticking well....

Cheers,

Mike

Don't freak out - wheels just off the road, really dirty. They clean up well. It was part of my experiment to see how the car handles in some snow - turns out with the AWD its great. The car gets its underside and wells washed twice a year as well...

Mike: Very pretty where you live. Agree on the too blue issue. However, it's awesome to see a 993 out in the snow!!!

Mike the car is an absolute beauty. I agree also the wheels may be a tad bit blue but i like the texture. Perhaps a darker color sans the blue.

Not too many choices on the ol' dip.

Lets see, there is Black, White, Red, Military Green, Camo Tan and Gun Metal Grey. You can get gloss or matt, these are matt.

Looks like Black is the best color for the next try.

Cheers,

Mike

I actually have a good-luck snowblower I picked up really cheap from the Olympics - and it has not snowed very much since I owned it. Brand new because the Olympics had no snow, I was going to flip it since who the hell needs a snowblower in Vancouver - but then as I was thinking of selling it, my wife tells me that if I sell it, we will get a big dump and I will be swearing blue murder so keep it. Its so much overkill, I love it!

My daughter with it a few years ago in a small snowfall, I had it out just so she could play....

Cheers,

Mike

Plasti-dip spray is amazing and without a doubt should hold up well. I think you'll be surprised how well it just peels off as well. My friend did the matte black on his Tahoe wheels for the better part of year with regular washing, and it held up just fine.

I just washed the car down - the wheels are a bit hard to get clean, the surface of the dip is not totally smooth so you have to scrub a bit. Took the abuse though!

I dipped my track wheels black and they held up pretty well. It was a pain peeling it off where I didn't get it thick enough. Top tip: use more plastidip than you think you need.

I was kind-of suspecting as much - I think for next year I will re-coat these wheels black and then the coating will be nice and thick. On the winter twists, the finish is a bit marred on the wheels anyways, so I do not mind hiding it...

Cheers,

mike

I actually like your rim color. It seems to play off the grey interior quite well from a distance. At least from the pictures..
