Default my96-98 factory jack replacement

Hello folks, wondering what you guys are replacing your factory aluminum jacks with. Tried search but didnt find a replacement option other than the original replacement. Found this heavy duty one on ebay but it's not a perfect fit for my car's jack point which has a jack-top tongue and jacking point groove.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Get a single jack pad and modify/machine it to fit into the slot in the scissors jack that you linked to. They are under $25 each.

As long as you are aware that you can't simply place the scissors jack under the flat surface of the jack pad. It will slip off. I never liked metal to metal contact, which is why they invented hockey pucks...eventually they got used for some winter sport.

they used to be called car pucks before hockey lol. In all seriousness I dont like it either but the toungue/groove feels safer than putting a flat surface on there. I will try to come up something OSHA would approve off. Thanks

Thats why I'd flip the jack pad over in my mill and mill it for a tab to stick out and fit in the scissors jack. A positive lock then.

Just always remember to chock the opposite down-hill side wheel.

You can also just look for a turbo/widebody/944/boxster scissor jack on eBay or Pelican, they are available quite often, are factory spec'd and have the oval 'key' already designed into the mount. The newer ones are cool because they sometimes come with the molded tray that fits in the spare wheel .. very convenient :-) Here's one ..

Yeah, second the Turbo jack vs the NA jack, which is crap. Way too unstable, do not like even using it on a flat concrete pad.

Cheers,

Mike

I saw this thread and almost ordered the Boxster jack that JPP mentioned. I went out to see whay my jack looks like and mine has the oval and looks like the boxster part. Has it been swapped out in the past or am I missing something?

Hey Mark, don't quote me .. but from my old PET listings, many years and models use the scissor jack design and the part number has never changed:
996 721 211 00 is listed for 993 Turbo/S/4S, 996, Boxster and 997. The 944 also used a scissor jack but it's part number is different and the jack is a bit longer .. not much, about 1/2".

^^^ and to be even clearer (I hope) the scissor jack was the factory issue for all widebody 993's because the other funky 'articulating' jack didn't clear the turbo sills without damaging them.
