Thanks everyone. Having any new car is always exciting no matter what the make/model IMO. A few comments.
None of the local Audi dealers would negotiate probably because they do sell every Q5 they get their hands on especially ones with the new motor that just started shipping late 2012. I actually went to www.truecar.com and was quite pleased that instantly I was offered 3.2% off MSRP at min from Circle Audi in Long Beach (at least it's something). So thumbs up on Truecar regardless.
These cars aren't exactly lightweights but I do have the Carbon Fiber Roof option...but oddly the weight savings over the sunroof version is only 22lbs I seem to recall but the center of gravity is lowered so some benefit there (as though I could ever feel it for my use - not).
I concede calling it a Monster is probably and overstatement but the sensation of that 4.0L V8's urgency as it sweeps to 8400RPM literally blew me away (note that was on the 38K mile used one they encouraged me to test drive hard not on the new one that had 6 miles on the ODO when I took delivery).
If I'm ever to keep this car it will not be without some kind of extended warranty. The very thought is terrifying as I've now seen stories on my new Bimmer board of DCT failures that can easily top $10k ouch. Some blown motors there too. Abuse? Maybe but scary nevertheless.
Meanwhile what this car really needs is to breath and sing with a sport exhaust. I thought Porsche parts were expensive but clearly BMW has been drinking the bong water with their $4K M-Performance mufflers (no gains just sound). Here is a clip. I like it maybe for less than half that cost but $4k not in this lifetime.

Congrats... the M3 is indeed an amazing beast... a daily driver with all the modern creature comforts with performance that could only be dreamed of in the past...
You sure its for the wife?

WOW what a beautiful car -- there was a burnt orange one at the dealer near us here, the janitor had to come mop the drool puddle from under my chin..
We recently added some BMWs to the stable 2013 328 xDrive Sport (240hp from a turbo 4-Cyl) and a 2013 X5 Premium (300hp) -- both are great cars.
This was the first BMWs we've owned, I'd buy again for sure.

COOL! I was looking for a M3 comp with all the goodies, but didn't find any but a Laguna Seca edition for $80k!
I ended up picking up a M5 with a V10 that revs over 8250rpms! MPG is about the same as your M3, but DAM it's FUN!!!
It's slightly bigger then the 993!
CONGRATS!

Nice car Flat6,
2 points though, is your wife up to the task of driving it or is she just profiling at 13mpg's?
Where are you going to stretch the car's legs in the US?
Good luck and enjoy the new toy!
