Default New Stablemate - It's A Monster

So the lease on my wife's 2009 335i Sedan (Sport Version) is up in 3 weeks and for the last two months I've been agonizing on what to get as replacement. Why why why can't the Porsche Macan be ready as that would truly be the perfect 2nd car for us. I will only consider the German marques (hopefully no need to explain why here). For a while a thought 997.2 but from a practical perspective that would be absurd. Cayenne was out (both too big and expensive). Nothing in the Mercedes lineup excites me save for AMG anything BUT the C Class (so there too more $$$ than I can afford).

So the focus became Audi. The S4 to me...meh. Then I drove the new 2013 Q5 with the 3.0T motor from the S4 (mysteriously detuned from 333HP to 270)?? The new S-Line kit and Sport Interior really really enticed me (sidebar: my only hesitation was after reading a review online of the Euro only SQ5 TDI...WOW)...why Audi does not think to bring that here as that is a very desirably machine. That TDI turbo diesel must pull like a train w/ 313 hp at 4500 rpm and 479 lb-ft of torque from 1450 to 2800 rpm!

Anyway. Despite that my wife was lukewarm on the Q5 I made a deal anyway (these Audi dealers for whatever reason are brutal they don't budge). We got up on Saturday morning to go close it out and for some insane reason we stopped at the local BMW dealer where upon seeing this 2013 Mineral White on Fox Red leather M3 Coupe Competition Edition...it was all over but the crying. These things fully loaded are not cheap so while I thought the Cayenne S was too much money I ended up spending almost the same on the M3.

Needless to say I'm astonished. Absolutely astonished at just how strong this car is. The motor (414HP @ 8400RPM), there are no words wow. My 1st experience with a double clutch (7-speed DCT) also very impressed. The "Sport" package on the 335 is almost comical to me now.

Downside? In the time it took me to write this post (and even though the car is parked in the driveway not even running it probably drank $10 in fuel). 13MPG city/20HWY. I don't care I goddamn love it

I noticed you have a Mobil station in your driveway based on your pictures good move based on your comment regarding fuel consumption. Car is sweet. Good luck with it.

I like the Q5s, but I think you made the right choice.

Jordan--
What a sweet ride! Knowing how your 993 is so tricked-out, and how impressed you are with the Beemer--it MUST be something! Enjoy!

Congrats man, that is one of my favorite current cars. I have a feeling it will be the last BMW like it, with the NA V8. I'd take a white sedan, 6-spd.

enjoy the new car
were you dealing @ AoSD or Hoehn?
Both do have an inflated sense of Q5 worth, probably because they can't keep them on the lot.

Jolly good for not getting sucked into the "sport" UV world.

My mom had an E93 M3 Convertible, 6speed. It was great. Heavy car, but nice to drive and a great engine. I dont think I ever saw over 19mpg. For her, it was the perfect mix of comfort and performance. She had a 335 isport for about 5 months and then my Dad got her the M...there was no comparison.

Beautiful addition. BTW: LOVE the rims on your 993--work great with the white exterior.

Nice car, but ain't in no way it's a monster. Welcome to BMW maintenance once the dealer crap runs out.

Your M3 is gorgeous, gotta love white performance BMWs...

I have a friend who flashed his 335i MSport (dual turbo , not new single turbo) engine, changed downpipes and has no cats, that thing nearly broke my neck on acceleration in 3rd on the interstate, it would dust an M3 easily (~ 500HP) and it's a sleeper. He chose this route over an M3 because he's not a flashy guy.

And I did not know MSport is more than just trim, it's suspension (as opposed to S Line which is just trim)

I'd love to replace my Cooper with a Macan when it comes out but I probably won't be able to afford it, so maybe a Countryman S.

I think Audi's are overweight, overpriced, underpowered VWs.... (no offense to anyone here, just my opinion)...

Default M3

Nice. Love the color combo. Drove both the 6sp manual and the floppy paddle M3. Much preferred the dual clutch auto. I love manuals too, but not on this car. Just bought my wife a used 2010 335i sport conv with 26K mi. It's the auto and she loves it. Got to say I can't seem to stay away either.

Congrats on the sweet ride.
