Default If you can redo your mods all over again...

What would you do?

For me, this would be it.

- PSS-10 or whatever suspension with shock and springs as a matched set.
- RS sway bars
- front bushings
- rs shifter
- strut bar
- drill and pin the tie rods
- v-ram conversion on a 95
- rs door panel to give the cabin more space
- 55w HIDs

And that would be it. Nothing more, nothing less.

So, what did you leave off and why. That would be very helpful for some folks starting down the slippery slope...D

I can't speak for Axl, but other common mods (depending upon mileage and other work required) are stiffer engine mounts, a lightweight flywheel, oil coolers, mufflers, and even (for the hardcore guys) regearing the transmission. Then there are lots of cosmetic mods (spoilers/splitters, removing the "bumperettes", Turbo S ducts, seats, steering wheel, road wheels, Turbo (Big Red) brakes <yes, cosmetic, since the standard brakes are perfectly fine>. And, if you are a total Nitwit, the complete Ruf Turbo R package!

What I already did...see signature...still on the fence about lightweight flywheel (it's in the garage) and regearing.

No regrets, on any of my mods. (see signature line for list)
best value for a street car were probably the HIDs.
Suspension mods are more subjective and personal, not necessary for a street car, so they are more difficult to justify, except for replacing worn shocks, and bushings.

What I have NOT done are:
LWF: waiting until my clutch goes, then will likely go with LWF
Regear: I would live to do this, but it makes little sense to me for the amount of money. If I get to the point where I need to rebuild my tranny, then it may make more sense.
3.8: may make sense at rebuild time.
RS Uprights: over the top for a street car.

-Control arm bushings
-Fister stage III (Had this on my last car and will be getting the new one soon)
-Paint touch ups
-Interior refresh including new side bolsters, shifter and handbrake
-Still to come is the Becker CDR210 radio with AUX input. Cannot find a Becker 7990

If i could redo i would do exactly whats on my sig. Next up is blue pillows along with engine carrier reinforce, g64 regear 3 through 6, FDM SS kit and golden rod, possibly RS Trans mount. Theres a very long todo list but Rome wasn't built in a day. I'm actually enjoying adding things slowly as i get to experience each mod independently of the rest. I thought the lwf and rs combo was quite a transformation. Ecu was also a nice improvement.

I am very happy with everything I have done so far... but If I could redo something I would have ordered softer springs from JIC. They were awesome on the track but the car skips around on the not so stellar streets around my house.

I only made one mistake - Bilstein HDs with M030 springs. Fixed that with KW V3s which are awesome.

The rest of the mods in my sig - especially the g50/31, LWF, softback sport seats and VRAM conversion - make the car close to my idea of perfect.

At some point I'll get a leather dash and door panels for the 95, but otherwise it's all the way there.

Best mod? Sold the Targa and bought the Turbo.

Ok, seriously, lets see mods that I did on the Targa that were not worth the money:
  • Higher end speakers - sort of useless when you have a louder exhaust
  • RS sway bars - a lot of money for a rougher ride and only usefull if you track a lot
  • RS Motor Mounts - really did not feel the difference

Things that I did not do on the Targa that I thought was not worth the money:
  • Regear the transmission - way too much money for the return
  • Upgrade to 3.8L on the rebuild - way too much money for the return
  • Supercharger - again better to just buy a Turbo
  • RS splitters - hated the things, they kept on catching on surfaces, curbs

Mods that I did that were totally worth the money:
  • RS clutch and flywheel - great increase in rev speed and feel
  • PSS-9's - big difference in handling although not sure if other options over the crappy OEM shocks would do the same
  • Aluminum guage rings
  • JVC KD-AVX77 head end
  • Sparco sports seats - heated cloth seats are wonderfull!
  • HID headlights
  • Turbo ducts with Hella lights
  • Euro Turbo Bumper - much better look, clean and got rid of the splitters
  • Gert's front protection bar
  • Walrod's front suspension bushings
  • Upgraded mufflers - including LPMM's, self-modified, and Romulus mufflers
  • RS tail - great balanced look
  • Fan over-ride switch
  • Upgraded steering wheel - 340mm
  • MY02's
  • Upgraded muffler tips

cheers,

Mike
