1st post -
Snapped my cable on a 993 Cab that holds the gas door closed - What are my options to fix this and open it? Any tricks etc.
Thank you,
Andrew

You will need to open the door to remove the broken part and install the new cable. I would tape off the edges of the door and fender to reduce any chance of damage. Then shape a piece of soft copper wire into a U-shape, fish it through from the rear edge of the door so it goes around the door catch, and pull to release. You may need to fish it all the way around so you can grip both ends. A piece of solid wire, such as Romex conductor, may work best.
After removing the broken pieces, install a new cable . It has a threaded end to screw into the pull ****. After attaching the ****, thread the plastic bushing that goes between the **** and the dash onto the cable, and push the cable through the dash into the fuel filler opening. Thread the cable through the pinch bolt, pull out the slack, tighten the pinch bolt, cut off excess cable. Test for operation before closing the flap. The cable is part #993 504 337 00.

I would think that there is "emergency" access to it somewhere in the front trunk. It might state so in the manual (don't have it here at work).

Soft copper wire is a good idea, but a string trimmer line would be a bit safer. Easy to release the catch, just loop it through from side to side around the mechanism and pull gently. Bobby is correct that there is no other access.
This is an easy one.....The engine compartment could be a whole other problem. A backup release cable is suggested and easy to install. I did.

VA993,
The emergency engine deck lid cable exits behind the left rear wheel. You have to pull the rear fender liner and there is kind of a shelf on the upper side made by the heat shield. There is a small hole into the engine compartment for the cable so no drilling.
I did a writeup on this a long time ago....

You can have access to it from either behind the left taillight or the fender liner. The taillight is much easier to get to. All you need to do is keep a stubby Philips driver in the glove compartment or tool kit.

Alex is correct regarding the access. I never thought about getting at the cable throught the tailight lens. Good advice.

I had this happen once to my gas lid and learned you can open it with duct tape. Just rip off a piece around a foot long and fold it over a couple of times so it's about an inch wide. Then slip one end under the middle of the lid so it comes out the other side. Grab both ends and pull back.
