Default Clear Mask rocks.....

Did my remaining fender guard today........

Tough part was getting the old stone guard ( was a white painted one) off with a dryer and flat edge....that took about a good hour......it flaked/peeled off under heat in small pieces.....

Glue that remained after the guard was peeled off came off with "Glue be Gone" product....much better/faster than 3M adhesive I used last time.....

Polished out the line of demarcation from the old guard with my orbital/polish to have a nice clean job...

Clear Mask went on fine in about 5 minutes, smoothed out well......both sides done for under $ 50.......

Really looks great....easy.....cleans the car up on overall appearance.......

I ordered from Clearmask.com.........they have customized pre-cut 993 protective 3M film...$ 28.00 for the Aeroguard film....I think that is for a pair.....

They were less expensive than other sources and I have had this material on other P-cars and have been extremely happy with the protection......the film is a 3M advanced technology material that has been used on airplanes for protection, so good enough for me.....you may hear others on this board say this clear film is too thin versus other companies, but the 3 M advanced technology for providing extreme hardness protection of this film takes care of that concern....as it doesn't matter how thick it is with the new technology....

The result is very clear and the thinner film seems to stay cleaner over time on the edges versus OEM guards and the like type of film.........

Has anyone experienced issues with the OEM stone guard peeling the factory paint upon removal?

Also are all factory guards painted?

For some reason was under the impression lighter color cars like silver, yellow etc had clear stone guards.

I have done two cars, one silver and my current white Porsche.

From what I understand, in the 90's and earlier they were painted and clear guards became in vogue after that.

My 2003 was clear, my 1995 had painted guards from the factory.

From what I experienced with both cars, there is no way the body's paint would peel.

There is a thick coat of adhesive to remove under the film, but no cause to worry about factory paint damage.......just use a plastic spatula or similar tool with heat applied at the same time to remove the old guard and it should go very smooth......you just have to be very patient removing the old film as mine came off in little pieces and it was a bit tedious to say the least...........

The results are well worth the work though..........takes years off the car's appearance ..........

Great results! I did mine this year too, and all I can say is if you have the factory originals on there now, get them off ASAP. The longer you wait, the tougher they are and it could possibly one day damage it if you let them get too brittle.

I think the new material they make them out of now is much easier to take off and stays together better. I still plan on changing mine out every 2-3 years as condition dictates, as I would rather spend a few hundred and keep it top notch than have to deal with the tediousness that we wenbt through last time. I eventually gave up and brought in the hired gun, who also had trouble with them. We got it done though.

Has anyone tried their bumper and hood products? I see they don't have a "without bumperettes" option but maybe they could do a custom cut.
