Being original around here means that you've got a factory stock car stored in an inert gas chamber and only driven on sunny, low humidity days. Any other interpretation is generally greeted with pitchforks and crucifixes..you're talking about messing with the holy grail, ya know! :-p

I might ruffle some feathers here but I find the 993 kind of awkward after having one for a while. It's too retro for modern touches to look right, and for the most part, it looks too modern for retro things to really flow with the rest of it. As a fan of different, I think it COULD work...I'd probably figure out some way to at least mock it up so you can blur your vision and get an idea.

Well there ya go...

Image search of BTR2 leaves me with mixed feelings. Kind of works, kind of doesn't..I think the black foam-rubber perimeter is a bit much on a light color car without much black elsewhere. Going to be pretty color dependent I think!

I like the BTR2. But, I think the car would look more visually balanced with black stone guards.

No... I'm agreeing with the part I quoted. Could you point out to me where I previously said any of that?

Thanks for finding the ruf vid and pics guys. That's exactly what I was looking for! Just something to give me an idea of the look... After seeing it, I'm pretty "meh" about the idea.

Here's a link with a few more pics of the BTR 2 to better see the tail, it wouldn't let me embed the pictures:

Agreed that the 993's monochromatic scheme would not benefit from a deviated spoiler with enormous gobs of THICK BLACK TRIM.

That trim matches really well on the older cars and I dig that, but as you see on the BTR it looks abyssmal on cars w/o the black trim elsewhere.

You could source an all-glass spoiler in the same shape of the 930 or tea tray but w/o the rubber bits, AIR or Better Bodies I believe offer them.

Contrary to popular belief, the 930 spoiler offered zero downforce - was fitted solely to house / clear the intercooler dangling off the rear end. What it did offer however? ENORMOUS WEIGHT. They are seriously heavy - yeah just what you want swinging in the breeze 'back thar' 8-).

If you do it, aim for the tea tray - the uprights on the 930 version create a too-angular look compared to the smooth shaved sculpted look of the 993.

Cheers for being unique... alas, remember:

No revelation on downforce. But, they negate lift. Even the little ducktail does that. If you look at the shape of a 911, it suspiciously looks like an airfoil. Try driving a 911 variant at speed with no tail, if you havent done so, and you can see how light they can get.

I'm surprised by some of the responses. To me a 911 just doesn't feel complete without a tail

Yes it looks very clean and nice with the natural curves but a tail complements it just perfectly imo...I'm planning on getting a ducktail for mine someday.
