Default Original Colour of the 993 Engine fan

Hi
Does anyone know the original colour of the 993 engine fan as delivered from the factory?
Does anyone have the colour code?

I was told on the week end, it was a dull silver and not the grey brown that they are today.

Thanks,

My original was a tan-ish color. I just installed a brand new one and it was a dull silver.

Hi Keith,
Do you know what the colour of the new fan would be?
Can you describe the silver of the new fan?
I want to spray my fan the same colour.

Thanks,

+993 Dull silver and the paint is so thin it doesnt last. Ofter time it wears away to a tan. The metal used on the fans was so low quality (porus) to prevent heat transfer that getting a good surface is darn near impossble.

If I wanted to clean up and dress up my fan, what would be the better choice - spray paint, powder coat or anodize (assuming this were possible)?? TIA

In order of durability......

Anodize
Powder Coat
Spray Paint

For cosmetic items on an auto or airplane I always try to go anodize first.

ToSi's new, silver fan looks exactly like my new one. It is not a match for polar silver, sadly for me...might be a little closer for you arctic guys.

I powder coated my fan housing, then had issues getting the new fan to rotate cleanly....it had some paint bumps on the ends from shoddy manufacturing. I ended up sanding down the end of the new fan blades using sand paper held against the fan housing while rotating the fan by hand. Starting with very thin, low grit (high number) paper and moving up to thicker stuff. sucked and took a long time. If I were to do it again, I'd probably paint mine myself and go very lightly on the inner barrel with paint.

As for the fan, you need to control the thickness there as well, so I might just go with hand painting that as well, when I get around to it. Look for a post by Andreas on the fan/housing painting.

Anodizing sounds like it might be an idea as well due to thin coating, but check on the magnesium(?) alloy fan's ability to hold onto the anodizing.

Can anyone else (original owners?) confirm? Very interesting....quite a color change from silver to tan.

You know...just when I think I'm a true-blue, down-to-my-bones Porsche fan--I see a post like this and realize I just don't have the juice. I'm second-tier. Poser. "Dipped it in some stuff" "had the hub replated" "re-riveted...like the factory." Who does this?! And, while we're on the subject...who cares what a fan--under the lid!--looks like? Maybe I'm just a surface P-Car fan...only pre-occupied with the quality of what you can see--from the outside. I'm not knocking those of you who repaint rotors, and de-gunk wheel-wells, etc...I'm just feeling a bit...unworthy.

Happy Motoring!

Original color on my low mileage 993...a slight tan or very light gold color to it.
