Actually its a pretty neat shot. Glad to see you folks made it thru (relatively) unscathed.

Looks like you got the "rescue" boat in case you need it - of course you have to get to it..... I guess you got some surge but not much wave action which is good.

My GF took these pics outside our windows around 4PM yesterday. About 50+ mph winds, rain. Darwin is quietly spinning in his grave. Damn, people are stupid.

Wait, you telling me that some idiot is packing a child in a chest carrier on the water in a 50+ MPH wind??? That is not Darwin, that is prison time.

Mike, that is a 6 month old baby. The moron came _to clean and secure his boat_ than went away. We were about to call 911 and I'm still pretty conflicting about not doing so. The boat is tied 30 feet from my windows so I can find the moron by boat name if I need to.

Loved the photo in the Times, even better now that I know it was of One of Our Own P-car Lovers.
Your son looks like he was having a great time. Your dog was certainly enjoying it more than my little 10-11# Manchesters did. We got hammered down here in Philly.

I'm from NJ and although I haven't lived there since I was 10, I'm there often on business. My folks also have a beach house in Brigantine, just north of Atlantic City. For those who aren't familiar with the Jersey Shore, it's hard to put into words just how devastating this is, on many levels. The Jersey Shore is just very unique - the people, the food, the boardwalks, the steel piers, the salt water taffy, the smell of saltwater in the air, the casinos, the little beach enclaves with names like Loveladies and Mantoloking, and Lavolette. Wildwood and Point Pleasant is where my parents spent summers as teenagers and it's where they fell in love. Manasquan and Belmar is where my wife and her sistersl hung out and worked during the summer. Our kid's memories are from Brigantine. My parents bought a condo there about 12 years ago and about 3 years ago they bought a townhouse just down the street. We've spent many weeks over many summers enjoying Brigantine Beach, eating awesome NJ pizza at Andre's, getting ice cream at Aunt B's, having great dinners at the Laguna Beach Grill.

The Jersey Shore has created so many great memories for so many people, so many generations of families. I've been to many beach towns, but there is simply nothing like the Jersey Shore. Yesterday, that all changed. The devastation is unimaginable. Many of these towns are not only destroyed, some, like Long Beach Island-a narrow strip of land just off the coast-have simply disappeared.

We will rebuild and recover, but the Jersey Shore will never, ever, be what it once was. We still don't know what is left of our places in Brigantine- we can only hope.

Here are some pics:
1) What's left of Laguna Beach Grill
2) The bridge going into Mantoloking---that ocean you see in the distance was filled with beach houses yesterday
3) Another shot of the bridge into Mantoloking
4) The CVS in downtown Brigantine
5) A shot of the PATH train station in Hoboken - my wife went through those turnstiles every day for years when she worked in NYC

Holy crap - that is really awful (and as usual I am awe of nature's power), what destruction. It sounds like your family is safe which is #1.

We definitely got lucky not only where we live in MD near the water but also our home on the shore in Delaware was fine. Dewey Beach had some issues, especially on the bay side but nothing like NJ/NY. Just awful.

On a happier note, continuing with an Ocean (Blue) theme, I hand detailed my car over the weekend. After 5" inches of rain, heavy winds and a couple of days without power here in southeast PA, it was back on the road today. Neither snow, nor rain, nor...
