Default Shift **** options and opinions

Ok, am looking around at shift ***** as a Christmas present idea for the kids/wifey to give to me - yeah very self serving.

I looked at Gert's site, as well as talked to Sunset (who have no pictures but part numbers which makes it hard), but it would be really handy to have all the options on the table.

Some limitiations from me:
  • No carbon fibre
  • No ball shifters
  • Gotta feel great and not too slippery in your hand
  • Not stupidly expensive

SO what are people running out there, and why do you like it?

So, from Gert we have the MY02 MY'02 Alu/Leather Turbo Shifter for P93 Turbo - 395 Euros/$511USD Gert - p/n 99642498107VRJ black - $392.16 Sunset

MY'02 Alu/Leather Shifter for P93 Cars - 295 Euros/$381USD Gert - p/n 99642498115VRJ - $349.76 Sunset

993 Rennsport Shifter - 210 Euros/$273USD Gert - p/n 993424075308YR -

The rennline shifter - $95 from Rennline

The RUF Shifter -

eBay available Shifter

Voodo ****

I'm using no. 3 on your list. it was a bit cheaper at Sunset but that was a couple of years ago. a bit lightweight compared to stock but i like the look and feel! adds 15 hp easy!!!

If it were me and I had a Turbo like yours #1 would be the simple choice. I had the #2 on a prior P-Car and it felt great. I just went through the shifter **** decision myself and was limited due to Marble Grey (or so I thought). Tried out other shifters in other's cars and found the OEM Porsche units felt the best by far. I was fortunate to score a "new in box take-off" from a 993 Turbo with the metal insert vs. the rubber my C2 came with, big difference in feel for the better.

Mike, I've played with all 3 (yes, my name is Mike and I play with shift *****). All three felt fairly cheap and light to me, very plasticky, especially the RS shifter.

Than again, I love a heavy ball shifter more than any of this formed stuff. Is "no ball shifter" based on you trying and not liking them? If you are willing to consider a good ball shifter combo I should have some pics of my latest project out shortly.

I supposed I can always try to make another ball shifter on the lathe and see how that comes out. I tried a few different shifters on some 993's, and like the way the more formed shifter felt in my hand, so I might be the "anti-mike", although I do not wear a goatee (if you get the reference). I already have the factory aluminum ball shifter though on the car already.

Mike, I encourage you to check out the RUF shifter. It is perfect for me, I love it.

Mike, the factory ball shifter is exactly what I'm trying to replace with my project. I'm not a big fan of it. On teh other hand I absolutely _love_ the Voodoo ball shifter that's been in my autocross appliance for 10 years now.

If need be I can ship you my Rennline ball shifter to try once I get the pictures out of the way. If you like it you can always get it reasonably from them ($100 or less).

Is there any way to make a voodoo **** fit the 993 shaft?

Mike, I have #2 i ordered it from Gert earlier this Spring and it looks and feels awesome. The finish quality is really really good. Would have gone for #1 but too much $, number 3 looks to skinny and feel cheap IMHO. You will not regret choosing #2

Mike the RS one looks great, but it's cheap, and all plastic. I had one for about 2 months, it's also really skinny.

Mike, my bro's C4S has #2 but in CF. I've always like that one in overall appearance and initial feel etc. Had intentions to eventually get one in that style too.

But honestly after using his car more frequent lately since the Turbo is @ Korva, the factory alum/leather ball is def my preferred choice, I think it's actually the most expensive **** on Gert's website too @ $420Euro.

Out of the 3 listed, if I had to choose I would go with #1 for sure.

Here is a response from Bob @ Sunset:

We have had the crest **** here before and I think the part number is 99642498115VRJ (black) $349.76. I have not seen the turbo version so it maybe 99642407505FGT $224.71 but not sure

Anyone know the part numbers for the Porsche supplied shifters?

Cheers,

Mike

I liked the shifter on your brother's car although it was a bit slick due to the CF - I have larger hands and I feel that the stock shifter is small and is not that comfortable.

Cheers,

Mike
