Default rennlist saved my butt...

My wife and I were doing an overnight drive and were over 150 miles from home and just south of Spring Green WI when the car suddenly stopped responding to throttle. I thought it had stalled but no dash lights were on. I pulled off the road where it finally did stop running and refused to start again. I tried a few times waiting a minute or so between tries. I thought maybe I had fuel problem but it wouldn't start.

And then I remembered - CHECK THE DME RELAY!

I had read about this before but because of rennlist I finally bought a spare DME and stashed it in the car for the time I would need it. I got it out... slipped it in place...crossed my fingers...and Helen started right up again. A disaster averted. My wife was amazed.

THANKS RENNLIST!

PS Spring Green is a fun place to drive and neat town to visit. Lots of hills and cury roads. It is the location of Frank Loyd Wright's Taliesin East.

Pop the cover off your "failed" DME relay, re-solder all the board connections, and you'll have a DME relay as a spare they will likely never fail again.

Glad to hear it worked for you. Just got mine last week and put it in the glove box. Hope it don't need it any time soon.

I immediately put a new one in after i bought the car. Why keep the new one in the glove box and wait until the 20yr old soldering fails? Dont like the idea of getting stuck somewhere in the middle of the night because of this, even with the spare....Just a thought.

I bought a new one and put the old working one in the glove box as well. To the OP - I agree, Spring Green is a beautiful part of the state. Been there many times.

But what makes you think the new one won't fail just like the old one did?

I bought a new one as a spare (before I knew what the problem and fix was), fixed the old one and it is back in place as my DME relay.

Cheap insurance.

I bought one before I legally owned the car.
