Default SIA question.

Is it just the US cars that have the SIA system on them? If I was looking at a 95 Canadian car, would it not have this system on it?

Thanks.

Thanks bud, much appreciated. How hard is it to remove said device? Is it a possible DIY project?

On a 95, just leave it alone. If it works, great, if not, who cares, it won't trip the CEL.

no the 95 has it too, but it doesn't cause a CEL like it does on the 96+

It is an easy DIY, I did mine a few years ago. All you need is the block off plugs from someone like Patrick Motorsport and about an hour or so. But as Quad has said, this is one that doesn't need to be removed from a '95 as it won't throw a cel and we don't have any annual inspections etc. here in Alberta.

I heard they can block up, and cause the valve seals to wear prematurely? If so, I'd like to remove it.

you have it backwards - the valve guides wear early, beat the crap out of the valve seals, allow oil to be burnt and that burnt oil carbonizes and coats the exit of the SAI passage in the exhaust port. The SAI pump does not contribute to excessive valve wear - that is Porsche's fault for using very soft guides.

The only reason you would remove it is to clean up the engine clutter and perhaps lose some weight.

Cheers,

Mike

If I could, I would remove just to get the weight and excess junk out of the engine compartment.

^^ ~6 lbs worth.

Owners of '95 should still be somewhat concerned too. Rusted check valves or core plugs in the SAI manifold will create leaks into the exhaust. Disintegrating wiring can be an issue too.
