Just looks like you need a new filter - $30 bucks or so.

Does cutting away the airbox beyond the Motorsound holes (ie, I have the OEM Motorsound box and might cut some more material away) improve the sound?

I see this on Suncoast website. I think I will order and install just the way it is. Should have come here first with the question.

Update: I have returned the part and filter to Fabspeed with a 10% penalty. I never started the car with the box installed so it was good as new. Lesson learned. When I install the motorsport box, I will post a pick. Thanks guys.

My Motorsound cover seems to give plenty of aural pleasure north of 4K. If you want that much noise, go to SuperCups or something like te new Fister cats/with Stage III's.

Hey, Ed. Where do you get a Motorsound cover? Is this an OEM part?

Yes, any of the usual suspects. Mine was a little less than $100, I think I heard they are about $120 now. Still, a lot less than the Fabspeed junk.

When I took mine out of the box, I've never felt so ripped off. It's a cheap piece of plastic, basically the same thing RC cars are made out of. They only cost $30 and have way more detail.

Just be sure and get some CRC MAF cleaner, if you run the K&N. You'll get proficient at removing your airbox and MAF for regular cleanings.

This is Joe @ Fabspeed Motorsports USA.

Porsche Motorsports Gremany Porcshe AG on the 964 CUP cars used an air-saw to cut away most of the stock OEM airbox coverlid. + 8HP was quoted by Porsche Motorsports and has always been found to be true on Dyno testing on cars with a stock OEM catalytic converter and a free flow exhaust with NO other changes. Reason the factory airbox inlet HORN is there to keep the induction roar/ noise down and when the filter element is open alot more air is easily and efficiently inhaled by the engine. The rear portion of all latemodel aircooled 911 airboxes>>> of any and all 911 Carrera, 964 Carrerra, 993 Carreras has a beautiful Velocity stack as designed by Porsche.

Virtually all cone filters deleted this velocity stack and the cars lost power in my experience and numerous Dyno runs. Yes clean engine department but less power.

I essentially copied what Porsche Motorsports accomplished back in 1990 as it 100% WORKS! I could not afford injection moulding nor would potential DE, Club Racers and 911 owners so I had an engineer design a CUP airbox coverlids for all these cars. The CUP airbox lids make a solid seat of your pants performance improvement especially when the car has a FreeFlow Dyno developed performance exhaust system.

I have sold these to customers with 964 CUP cars to 993 RS 3.8 Clubsport WPOZZZ cars and each and every single customer had picked up both power and sportscar sound. Yes you can cut & gut your stock airbox or a motorsound airbox coverlid to accomplish the same effect and many have done so. But then originality has been compromised and if you have been watching 911, 964, 993 aircooled prices lately the car are collectors items and gaining value rapidly.

I own 2 993 cars a cabriolet and 3.8liter 993 RS Clubsport clone...........I have all my factory parts as these will be $70K to $100K cars in 20 years and they dont break and work great.

FABSPEED MOTORSPORTS USA GRAND OPENING this weekend Saturday 10/ 13/ 2012 rqain date Sunday. Bring your 993 by and I will Dyno it with stock OEM airbox and then install my 993 CUP airbox and QED.

have a great week

What you should do is save that Motorsound coverlid with the chrome intake horn.............. and take an airsaw to the stock 993 Coverlid and cut everything except the Frame and latches to gain another +8HP to +10HP on a big 3.8 liter with cams and compression. All 993 owners should also eliminate the Clutch vacuum hose so sintered metal sahvings dont get ingested into your engines.

Thanks for the response and feedback Joe. I have used Fabspeed parts in the past and will again. Maybe my post will allow the opportunity for you to answer some of these issues.
