Default (too much) clutch chatter?

I have roughly 43K miles on my '97 C4S' original clutch. Occasionally I will now get some type of rattle or chatter from the clutch, always from 'cold' and usually just in 1st or 2nd gear. It goes away after a couple of miles.

Is this symptomatic of anything, just normal?...or is this a clutch 'death rattle?'

Sometimes clutch chatter can be caused by oil on the surface of the clutch disk. Rear main seal or front trans seal. Just a guess.

thats what my Indy told me...I only get it in reverse, and not always. Of little to no concern, until it gets worse.

Any oil stains on the bell housing to indicate an oil leak?

I have to get under there to look. No oil on the ground though.
