Anybody on here have experience with '02 ownership? I'm not selling my 993, just looking for an additional weekend toy. I've always liked the 2002s since my high schools days here in San Diego, but have never owned one.

I have come across what seems like a pretty nice example and I'm really interested in it, but feel out of my element in what to look for with this early of a BMW. The car is not local to me so I have only discussed it with the owner on the phone and looked at pics via the web and email. Anybody know of a way to "Rennfax" an old Beamer?

I used to own a 74 3.0 CS. Still regret selling it. To my eyes, a far more attractive option.

Had a 72 2002 Tii--loved it. Have close friend who has original 70--nicest, unmolested 100% original in country--numerous awards (Amelia). Hemmings did feature on it. He's in Germany right now picking up new m5. lOOK FOR RUST! Roundel, 2002 forum good resources.

Buy smart and you won't regret it.. They are great cars and will not depreciate much if at all... Much like a 993. To me the slightly modded ones are the best looking.

The 2002 lured me away from Porsche some 40 years ago. They're fun, practical and relatively easy to work on. Some trim parts are getting scarce. BMW CCA is a great resource. Just like our beloved 993, there are those who like them stock, some like 'em modded and some race 'em. The 2002Tii is the top of the heap (Bavaria susp., mech. fuel injection). Most preferred years are 1972-1973 (round taillights). Lopro is correct...Dreaded rust can be a real bummer. Inspect rocker panels (inner and outer), etc.

Too funny, I was just looking at older BMWs last night. I think a 2002, e30 m3 or a e28 m5 will look great in my garage.

I've had a dozen or so, restored three, and just finished building a very high performance motor for a friend (should put out about 175bhp). I can't provide any advice. But I have also appreciated the old BMWs for many years. I had an E30 325IS that I used for a track car. I loved it and would still have it but just don't have room for all the toys.

I like to look at the cars on this web page. They are in LA. I know nothing about them or their cars other than what I have seen on their site.

I've had 2, a base '71 and a Tii '73. Huge difference in performance. Going by memory 100hp vs 140 hp. Mechanical fuel injection would wander out tune over a year or so. Round tail light versions are much cooler. Driving the Tii was where I first discovered trailing throttle oversteer. Overall fun cars but definitely old tech.

I've had mine for nearly 20 years. A '73 2002tii. The car is a joy to drive. We almost sold it last year then came to our senses.

Analog Theory

Had a 74tii in high school and my old man had a 72ti that was imported from Germany so even more rare. Absolutely loved it but my example had really bad rear shock tower rot. Agree La Jolla Independent is a great shop to tap for assistance/PPI/service

I had a base 71' 2002 learned to wrench on it with my Dad. It was a great car. I'd definitely wouldn't mind a Tii or even a Turbo. Here's pictures from this years Legends of the Autobahn in Monterey, CA.
