Interest in Front and Rear Window Templates
Hi,
Recently I had to refit my front and rear windows and was unable to purchase the Porsche Window Assembly Templates in Australia due to Porsche Australia policies and decided to manufacture my own (with the help of a couple of Renlister’s).
The templates I manufactured are similar to the Porsche factory templates, with a couple of minor changes.
My templates worked perfectly.
These are the Window Assembly Templates as in the Porsche repair manual under windows, they are to get the depth of the front and rear glass/windows right, when replacement is required.
Well this got me thinking, looking at the costs of the template kits from Pelican
Front Templates (4 x Templates) 00.721.955.50 US$459.75
Back Templates (4 x Templates) 00.721.955.60 US$49.50
A Total of US$509.50 plus shipping.
So if anyone is interested I could make these templates available.
I was looking at US$175.00 including shipping to the US for the front and back window templates (That is for the 8 x Templates, 4 x Front and 4 x Back).
So the question, would anyone be interested?
(This is just to gauge interest)
Thanks,
PS, If I knew how to post a picture on this forum, I would be happy to post a picture of the Templates.

Neil, to post a pic, click "go advanced" when you reply to one, then under options click "manage attachments" and you will get a pop up box where you can search and add your pictures. Looking forward to the pics.

Hi Mark,
I will pick up the templates tomorrow and post the pictures.
The templates are at the panel shop that is fitting my new front windscreen and refitting the rear window.
Thanks,

I have access to a laser cutter, once the pattern is reproduced in AutoCAD it's just a matter of loading the material and letting the laser cutting cut them out just as they appear to have done in the photograph above.

Hi Harlan,
I am happy if you want to offer the templates to Renlist Members, if you have the equipment to do it,
you will get no competition from me, I prefer, to just enjoy my 993..
Again, I asked the question, "if anyone was interested".
I made the templates, as Porsche Australia will not sell Porsche tools, templates or any service aid to the Australian public and interesting Porsche dealers here in Sydney do not use the templates, as I could of easily borrowed a set.
So I had no choice, but to make them.
It would of taken a least 3 to 4 weeks to get the templates from the US, via Germany Porsche, if they had stock.
Plus I don't think it is fare of Porsche Australia not to sell the window templates, that is their policy, so that is that, but it gave me a challenge, Porsche said no, so I was going to make them, it was just a challenge and that how it came about, also with the help of a couple of Renlist members.
So I have a CAD drawing of the templates now and if anyone was interested on this forum, I would make and sell them a full set.
Yes, I have access to a laser cutter, Yes, they are cut with a laser cutter.
If I offer a part on the forum again for the members convenience, I will also state how they were made, so I don't get people big noting themselves.
I had no intention in ripping anyone off, on this forum, this is a great place, away from the con's of the world, a sanctuary.
"Once the pattern is reproduced in AutoCAD it's just a matter of loading the material and letting the laser cut them out"
So you make it sound easy, so you better start making them, as I am sure you will have many willing to take up your offer.
Good Luck, saves me seeing Renlist members paying the $509.50 to the Porsche Parts suppliers.
Thanks for saving be the hassle.

Neil, I don't think Harlan intends any ill will by his post. This could be a great service to members, but having someone able to cut them stateside could save you time, trouble, and the others a few bucks.
You could charge a royalty fee for each person that reproduces the templates, as you certainly deserve to be compensated for your work.

Hi Mark,
You could probably produce the templates looking at your profession.
I could just send the JPEGS of the templates to who ever needs them.
I don't want to make money out of it , just save other getting ripped off and cover my costs.

So sorry, I don't have the time or patience to make these things so not to worry. I do design laser cut wooden caboose kits for my Garden Railway hobby as well as occasional architectural model for my architectural practice. Good Luck with your templates!
