The 917 went for $5.5 million, a new world record. They had a bunch of nice Porsches going across the block tonight...makes you proud!

I was waiting for the Silver 1970 911S to come through and they did not have it on television! Grr. But it did sell, I'm just wondering for how much.

Lots of good P-cars to watch!

Lots of P cars today....

IF they finally got that yellow car sorted it was a deal at that price IMO.... Ton done to that car....that said the car has been on and off ebay, changed hands, rumors of issues etc... so IF.... hope the new owner got a nice car and any issues are behind that car...

OT- Chris ^^ Good to hear -- I'm guessing all the hyperlinks worked for you. Post pix later when they're installed!

Alvin generously gave short 'test flights.' Both Alf & I were giddy afterwards -- Turbo's kick threw you deep into his Atan's Recaro A8s.

Yep! A year later my car, "Speedy," & I met up with "Big Bird" again, but - unfortunately - Atan888 (Alvin) had flown the coop & was incommunicado.

Check below video interview with its 2011 owner, from the "Legends of the Autobahn" thread:

I arrived to Legends late, but while there, PCA's President &/or his Executive Director were standing next to Big Bird 90% of the time. They were in love.

A gentleman named Alvin helps Anthony with the 993. He's quick to point out he's not that Alvin (ironically the same name of RLer Atan888).
He's the one that goes to Speedy to grab a magazine during this vid. He was excited to see the same car he'd read about in Excellence parked next to Big Bird, & happy I brought a copy of that issue.

I can't say enough good about meeting Alvin, Anthony, & their ladies -- fun enthusiasts to be around. I got the impression Big Bird's in the hands of appreciative enthusiasts.

After Aug 2011's Legends of the Autobahn, Big Bird was on eBay almost immediately, featuring photographs culled from RL, autoblog.com, the above PCA interview video, etc.

Of many related RL threads, here's one: "Interesting 'Big Bird' turbo fs."

Amazingly, the Sep 2011 auction link is still active as of this writing:
"1996 Porsche 911 993 TT RUF: Ultra Custom 1996 Porsche 993 Twin Plug Turbo 3.8 Powerhouse RUF Upgrades" by eBay seller '1989speedster.' Auction #160653710065.
^^ Worth clicking just to see their impressive studio photography.

Feb 2012 coverage on germanCarsForSaleBlog.com's "Big Bird: 600 HP 1996 Porsche 993 For Sale With No Reserve."
According to a comment posted there, the auction closed at $94,500.

Great car indeed. There was a car in KC that was highly modified and always a bit temperamental. Would be fun to drive.
