Default Cracked front bumper

Pulled a genius move this afternoon. I was changing my 997 over from street wheels to the track wheels and while carrying one wheel around the car, I knocked another over onto the bumper of my 993. Unfortunately, it hit the corner of the bumper and spiderweb-cracked the paint. It's fairly subtle and I think it is just in the paint but still very uncool.

Anyone have any ideas about possible ways to fix this other than an entire repaint of the front bumper? If there isn't a simple repair, I'll probably leave it alone and try to get used to it.

Drive it! Seriously ...not trying to be cheeky. Unless we're talking Concours Car here, that is small potatoes, friend. Smile, accept the foible, and remember that it'll make you more careful the next time you work around your car, not to mention help keep you focused on more important matters in life.
...btw, that "more important" matter may range from anything from your personal life to a mod that really matters. And by the looks of your sig, may I suggest you have an enviable nice stable where other mods just may matter!

Not sure what you can do. I would be PO'ed as well. I guess I would leave it until I may need a respray. Would love to hear someone more knowledgeable answer the question as I could easily see myself doing the same.

You can't do anything to fix that. Maybe something w/ a bit of cut such as Meguiar's Ultimate Compound will take the edge off the cracks, reducing the amount of light it catches (i.e. hides it a bit), but that's about it.

Yeah, I think I'm just stuck with it. Bummer because otherwise my car is pretty flawless and I'm generally very careful with it. But it is not a concours car and I guess I'll just get used to it. Just stings a bit on the day it happens.

Thanks for the comments guys. And be careful - it wasn't a big hit that made that damage on my car. Paint and plastic must be getting a bit brittle on a 16 yr old car.

Same happened to my bumper a few months ago. I decided to just leave it. I'll deal with it when I need a body shop, till then I try not to look!

I have similar problem on my rear bumper plus a very small hole from a PO. Well-respected body shop bid $350 to fix and respray. Will take it off this winter while in storage and do it.

I, probalby like you, want the car to look right.....I understand.

FIX IT Rudy...... Lol! Seriously though, shouldn't be a big deal for a good shop to repair.

If you leave it, you'll notice it every time you wash/wipe the car down & remind yourself of the genius moment....

I've got a much larger one of those spider web cracks from hitting a turkey at 60MPH. The paint is cracked, the bumper itself is fine. It shows more under certain light conditions. I know I'll have to respray the bumper to really fix it but am afraid that it won't match the color of the rest of the car. So I just live with it. But once I decide it's time for a repaint I'll have to talk to the shop and see if they can add more flex to the paint mix. It should help in future turkey hunts.

+1.

This issue can be easily repaired for not a lot of money by a mobile repair person. I'm actually waiting for my guy to come by today to fix a couple of small scrapes.

Quick google search reveals a couple of these mobile dent/scratch repair businesses local to me. Is this a valid way to repair a nice 993 or are these businesses better targeted at mom's minivan full of shopping cart dings. I realize that, as with all mom and pop businesses, capabilities will vary but it is ever OK to take a very nice car with a very minor blemish to this kind of business or is it best to find the collision shop that does high end exotics and pay $1500 for a full bumper respray?

I'm not even sure what the dent repair place could do in this case - other than a repaint.

Anyway, think I'll take the car to the most professional-looking of these businesses and hear them out on what they would recommend. I'll report back.

Rudy, it looks like an easy fix. My guy would probably charge $150 to fix that. If it were my car, I wouldn't hesitate.
