My 993 brethren, my faith is being sorely tested.
Third time in a year that my co-conspirator, my fellow mischief maker has forced me to call in the tow truck...yet another suspected alternator problem.
This on top of two shredded tires only three months apart.
Friends, keep me from buying a Civic. I know this is a moment of weakness that will pass as soon as I can abuse the speed limits again (mere guidelines, in my book, but I digress), but I need to draw upon your collective strength to get past this.
Thanks in advance....

Hi
Yes, Civics are pretty reliable. Deathly boring though. Not sure about the tyres, I guess because they are higher profile they will be less prone to damage. I wonder why you are getting repeated alternator problems. Time for some further investigation.......
Best of luck

Cars give and cars take, and sometimes there are moments that your car asks a lot.
But only there is one such car that can give you that warm feeling that only a few can give by simply thinking of this special car.
We are in that lucky group of people that can say we cherish that feeling. Unilaterally we can create that feeling with our simple ownership.
Soon you will feel good about her again. The 993 is such a giving car. Driven or thinking off ...
Cheers.

I have done this route and it cost me a lot of money and remorse (sellers and buyers).
1. Fix the car first (even if you sell it you would have to fix it first anyways).
2. Drive the car for 100 miles on a nice day on some good roads. If it makes it without breaking than you will not need us to affirm your faith. Do not go to #3.
3. If it breaks or you no longer like it, go to your Porsche dealer (not Honda) and get a newer Porsche under warranty.
Good luck!

Ed,
I drove a Civic daily for over 18 years and it will go down in history as the single best car "investment" ever...measured solely by practical value for the money. It did not give, and never would have given, the pleasure that a single drive in the 993 offers.
I know alternator troubles....I'm on the 3rd rebuild of mine right now in the last 2 months, with the car off the road that whole time. (it's a long saga that needs its own thread, but I need a full bottle of whisky to want to relive it all, including the part where I broke a perfectly good alternator at 10pm the night before AX, causing the 2nd rebuild (possibly the 3rd as well......)). I have friends who went thru several "rebuilt" alternators as well....bad bearings.
Hang in there my friend. You have to average this 3 times over the entire time you've had her.
And besides, who else ya gonna call your "co-conspirator, my fellow mischief maker"???

The good thing about rebuilding it yourself is you can control the quality. BTW, the original alternator is still in my 1999 Honda at 139,000 miles. So is the battery.
