Crap Handling= Bad Engine Mounts?
Ongoing from a previous post....
1997 NB Coupe with 81K miles with M030 and Bilsteins - (EDIT: Walrod bushings less than 7K ago)...Wanders and tracks irregularities in the road, vague steering response...Sometimes minor oversteer and sometime minor understeer....Worse is hot conditions than cool.
Alignment , including kinematic toe, is spot-on and has been double checked. Suspension, front and rear, has been gone through and is solid. Front tires have 10K miles and rears have 1500 miles and have been through several heat cycles.
Are there specific handling characteristics associated with bad engine mounts?
Thanks,
Terry

Drifting
The tail tends to wag itself a little when loaded.
Looking at your list of issues, front end bushings come to mind. At 46k on my 97 the front end was doing pretty much like you described. Bushings looked fairly normal but after the installation of Chris Walrod's bushings the transformation was immediate.

Walrod Bushings and a 4 wheel alignment is the way to go and should sort your problems.
It was simply amazing how much the new bushings improved the handling of the car
If your motor mounts are shot you should get some new ones but i doubt that they are the primary cause to the poor handling issues.
You can align all you want but it does not help if the bushings are shot. I know by experiance that doing a propper 4 wheel alignment does require a passionate tech.
That is why i tend to do my own 4 wheel alignment with state of the art equipment

Engine mounts would only affect handling during transitions. During steady state they should not come into play. So only a freeway entrance, how does the car feel:
1) At turn in
2) During steady state
3) accelerating
Arm chair quarterbacking... It really sounds like kinematic toe or bad tires...

Sorry...Should have mentioned that I had "bushing symptoms" less than 7K ago and cured them with Walrod bushings...I hate "hanging parts" in hopes of stumbling across a cure, but I'm thinking that I just need to trash these tires and buy a new set.
Thanks for the input...
