Anyway to check if the wheels are OEM? Mine are close on the rear but no marks on the calipers for the year they have been installed.

I only checked my street wheels, but I run 2 different sets of MY02s and haven't ever noticed any clearance issues.

Thanks for all of the responses. The 5mm spacers that I installed last night provide more than enough clearance - I'll leave them on for now.

The interference is very, very fine (only on the driver's side) and would have left a slight rub mark had I not noticed that the wheel touched. Here is the area in question (pic of my pre-refreshed caliper):

Boy Steve, That is seriously close.....

For me a little too close, Big Reds or Spacers should be in your future.....

Andreas, do you notice much of a difference in how the tire fills out the wheel well - better, worse or no real difference?

noooo... The bleeding must stop... I know someone very well on rennlist who works at the same station as me (yes you Geoff) who was going to sell me some front big reds last year - then I'd have to get rears and new rotors... I'd probably try and buy a set of speedlines first (to match my soon to be installed rs body parts)... I'm going to have to stop coming on here...

But seriously - I think the pictures make it look closer than it really is. I've run the car a whole season with it like that without a single problem.

5mm is very little, but it did bring the wheel/tire out a bit. Still plenty of fender clearance with 275/35/18 Continental Extreme Contact DW tires.

My car is at ROW (or a bit lower) height with Bilstein HDs and M030 coils.

The Cups ran 10ET61, just think of yours as having a Cup look

It's funny that some MY02 5spokes seem to have the issue and others don't, I wonder if it's simply oe BBS vs aftermarket or something else

When I bought my car it came w/ the small stock brakes and BBS MY02 5 spoke wheels and had no issues.

Andreas said his are brand new. I wonder if BBS changed the casting mold ever so slightly?

FWIW, I can get my pinkie nail between each caliper, so that's maybe 6-8mm? No difference, port or starboard...

I have had multiple sets of MY 2002 wheels...don't recall an issue...BTW, Porsche sells a 5mm spacer for our cars. It is in their wheels Technical Bulletin. with a mere 5mm extension, longer wheels studs would probably be unnecessary.

Some folks put them on the front only, helps with turn in on track orientated cars, so they say.

I wonder if there's a slight casting or machining variance between the left & right side hub/bearing carriers? The wheels are brand-spankin' new BBS MY02 wheels with similar date codes (purchased from Sunset).

A few months ago I mounted a damaged 10x18 ET65 MY02 on the left rear hub to see if I liked the look. For whatever reason, I turned the wheel slightly and saw that it left a rub mark on the very caliper in question. At the time I chalked it up to a bent wheel (although I had a difficult time believing the spoke material local to the hub face was out of whack).

So, the interference, while very slight, is real. I'm perfectly fine running the 5mm spacers.

I took a closer look with better light, and there is a tiny rub mark on both rear calipers, in exactly the location Andreas indicated in his picture. My wheels are genuine Porsche/BBS. Car is a 95 NB, original US (SUV) ride height.

It appears that the clearance issue may not be all spokes, but just one or two...next time I have the car up, I'll take a look at any marks on the back side of the wheels.

I'm wondering if there was any play at all when you mounted your refreshed calipers, before you tightened them down. It wouldn't take much one way or the other for the rubbing to occur - seeing as how little room I have with no rubbing. Just a thought.

I can rest easier now.

IIRC the hub offsets on the brake rotors are different, could this be the issue? Forget if it was the front or rear rotors but there was a difference.
