Here's food for thought... I bought my 356 Cab in 1990 for $30K, drove it to California, Oregon, Colorado, took part in many local events, so drove it a lot!

I sold that Porsche 356 Cab for $84 in 2008, better than a 5% annual gain, much better than my stock portfolio. In 2008 I bought my present 1998 C2S for half of the price I got for my 356!!!

That was never the intent, but you can see how values can increase over time, the same may happen for those 98 C2s models as only some 900 or so were built, and now how many are left...

Just presenting some ideas how values my increase over time, and drive it at the same time!

"Air-cooled Regards", to all my RL friends.

I agree with your point of view (and color choice for your C2S!).

Driving these cars, or not, will make little difference in their ultimate value in the long run. There might be some effect on value in the short run for people seeking a very low mileage car. BUT, if these C2Ss do turn into classics like certain 356s and early 911s, the mileage will be meaningless.

No one gives a crap how many miles a 58 Speedster has (or had, before renovation); Same with early 911S cars. They will all need to be repainted, renovated or substantially refreshed years from now if/when they become classics/collectible. So agreed, may as well enjoy them if your not a seller in the near term.

Without even considering investment value, a decision that I have been regretting for the past 10 years is selling my '95 993 in 2002. I believe that the 993 was the last 911 to keep the soul of the original 911. Each succeeding 911 model has required less from its owners and morphed more and more into a luxury sports car rather than the pure sports car that's embodied in the 993. I took a great deal of pride in developing the skill required to drive the 993 at its limits without doing 180s, although I have to confess that I did more than one unintentional 180.

Anyway keep your 993 and enjoy it. I wish I had.

11 years deep and I still have mine. Almost 50k miles. I drive her more now than I have ever before.
Might even get rid of my daily driver X5M and just 993 it around.
It's hard though, I hate having valet's even touch the 993 (don't care about my other cars..) So it's hard to be a DD.

Hard to believe I'm one of the guys on the 993 board who has had his C2S the longest

I look forward to reading that article. I'm quite familiar with 356 prices and they are high just like the early 911s. 912s seem to be unloved and a relative bargain.

A valet is the guy that park your car in a private parking lot (restaurant, hotel, etc.)

I was thinking that too - I have never, ever used a Valet - my buddie used to be one and after his stories (test driving cars... ), forget it.

So if the C2S is so collectible, why is it taking ericthepilot awhile to sell his? Seems reasonably priced based on what else is out there.

Sorry for a stupid question, but what constitutes a 98 vs a 97. Is it model year or build year? I've got what I've always thought (and bought) as a 98 C2S. It was built in November 1997. And registered for the first time on 24 December 1997. Still a 98?
