DIY remove the steering wheel center cover
#2
Two torx screws .... you can feel them on the backside of the steering wheel. Turn the wheel to allow space for your screwdriver. I cannot remember the size off hand, but its quite standard. Take them out, and then the airbag is loose.
If you intend to change the airbag or unhook it, its recommended to disconnect the battery and wait for 10 minutes at least - just to make sure that any potential capacitive storage of power has bled off (very conservative recommendation).
Why are you taking it off?
cheers,
Mike

Hi Peter,
As what Mike has said there are two torx screws at the back of the steering wheel. I fixed my retaining frame problem two years ago. There are tonnes of info here and the people here are extremely helpful. Do give it a go. Remember if I can do it so can you : )
All you'll need is a long torx drive and a little patience. Here's some crappy photos on the tool and torx screw.

Thanks, Peter
I have the original 17" targa wheels on my targa. Locally, they are very affordable 2nd hand wheels (I guess most would swap them out to 18" wheels). You can keep an eye on the local car website (ie, 28car.com) they come up for grabs once in a while.
With 2 kids and a dog, I don't drive my targa as much as I would like to and became an addicted reader. I'm just amazed, and occasionally in awe, at the work of the DIY fellows here. Anyway you are welcome to PM me.
Cheers, enjoy your 993.
