1997 993 C4S Buying Help
Dear Rennlist:
I am brand new to this forum and this is my first post.
I am looking at 993 C4Ss right now and need a little guidance with price. A guy in Michigan is selling a 97 C4S in Michigan with 97K miles on it. He has service records and welcomes a PPI. He is the fourth owner.
My question is about price. Considering what I see on the Internet and on KBB(which I realize is not a great metric by the way), the price looks a little on the high side at $38, 900.
1. Am I wrong?
2. The car is 4 hours away so I will have to make a special trip to check it out.
3. The owner welcomes a PPI(as I said above).
4. The car looks to be in very nice shape.
Should the miles scare me away as I intend to drive the **** out of it? Am I asking too many questions?
This would be my first Porsche. I have owned a few Subaru STis(an 05 and an 11) as well as quite a few VWs. Understandably, despite reading the huge book dedicated to buying and caring for a 993, a feel like a fish out of water.
Any help would be swell.
Thanks,
Michael

What mods & maintenance have been done?
If has the original factory suspension, I would only want to pay on the low side because it would demonstrate that he probably cares little about porsche maintenance and market values.

Maybe someone here local to the area can give you a Rennfax (i.e go check out this car for you). Quite normal on this forum.
Can you post up the ad, this will help us see if many other "plus" items have been done and provide a better gauge for price.

Huh? A C4S in great shape with no issues and reasonable mileage should be in the mid-40's. Even with this car's high mileage, 38k is a helluva deal, unless the car has serious issues.

keep in mind the cars you see on the internet might be far away and cost you a flight, hotel room, fuel back home, food, etc adding to the purchase price.
this car being 4 hours away is a big plus and could be worth $1000 more than one 5 states away.
on price, my 2 cents is with upgraded suspension and clutch it is fair value at 38.
meaning if its the color you are looking for, interior/exterior is in good shape, then 38 is a good deal.
if you're not excited for the color you won't be missing out on anything by passing this one up.

actually just read the listing, and I take it back.
struts, clutch, hydraulics, rear main seal, about 5k worth of parts and labor. if you like the color start driving up to see it now.

I would ask the seller if he would agree to a sale contingent upon PPI results at an agreed price. Put a deposit on it now.
I am sure not many members here will "steal" this car away from you but the cat is out of the bag and there are many visitors on this site.
