Default Nail polish on handbrake?

What do you think the P.O. was trying to do here, how did he fail and how do I fix it?

60 grit sand paper would most certainly get rid of it. But I'd try nail polish remover first

Probably envisioned the "PORSCHE" to match body color? You might try this, as I have had great success with it on touch up: http://www.bluelightningproducts.com...-UP-MAGIC.html

Ahh posted too late.. I've used on of the extremely thin sharpies (with the round square edged head) with success in the past

What material is the emblem made of, if it's plastic then the finish will likely be painted and nail polish remover, which is essential acetone, will take of the red and probably the silver beneath it. If it's metal then you're safe. Have you tried scratching it off with your fingernails?

Scrape it off with your finger nail.

My thoughts exactly.

+1. I think acetone or any other solvent that's aggressive enough to remove the fingernail polish will remove the handbrake lever finish, too.

Good luck...

I think if the acetone takes the silver off the handle, it will be better than the
current state of it..Besides, you could always get some silver enamel spray
paint (even a model paint like Tamiya), and respray it back to perfection

If it's the factory CF handbrake, the metal part is, well metal, nail polish remover on it should be fine. But just use a little on a towel, do not pour it on the handle.

Stealth,
Not so sure about the button at the end of the handbrake, is that metal as well? Can't remember if the button feels cold in the mornings (metal) or not...

I think he wanted the letters PORSCHE inlay-ed with red. It looks like he let the paint dry before removing it. I've had great success doing this, but after applying the paint, you must wipe off the excess right away without too much pressure to avoid removing the inlay. If it's metal, I would use any type of paint remover on a cloth. Maybe try stretching the cloth over you finger or thumb and dab the remover on the cloth. Then wipe over the area lightly without too much pressure. You maybe able to remove the excess paint as the previous OP intended and have the inlay-ed paint remain. If not, you will remove it entirely as you originally wanted. Whatever you do, avoid the ends.

Thank you all for your advice. I will check if it's metal. Do it look like an original Porsche handbrake or is it an aftermarket?

It's OEM and made of aluminum, the nail polish remover won't melt it.
