Guys - can somebody send me a link to purchase the exact DME you're talking about? I hear these are good to have hanging around. Thanks.

Thanks. Just bought one. I assume this relay is accessible from the fuse box? I'll look for a DIY.

I've been having the same issue all year. I've had to have my car towed 3x because of it.

The first time we changed the DME and ignition wires. 2nd time was the crank sensor and ISV cleaning. Now it's there and my tech is changing the ignition pack or something, i dont remember what he called it.

I will post back when I get results.

The crank sensor fix worked for a period of time, but it still had some startup issues and i would have to re-crank the motor and it would start. This time i went to start it, it fired up and cut right back out.

Try cleaning the MAF wire.

Hey Guys,

Just bumping this thread as my car has started acting up again.

Story goes the shop my car was in left the lights on. When I collected the car we jumped the battery and I was able to drive home. Went on holidays for 3 weeks and of course the battery was empty via alarm draining it. I charged the battery (removed it from the car) and put it back in. Car ran fine for the first 5 mins when the stalling issues would start again.

Every time I push the clutch in at very low speed when braking she dies.

I put in a new DME relay and its done nothing...same issue. Only stalls when I depress the clutch when slowing (lower than 5mph) or when I slow to stop at a traffic light.

Suggestions?

I hate to ask, because it's huge job, but how old are the plug wires?

Cam, when you pull the battery on the car, your computer will reset all its
readiness codes. It takes a while for it to reset unless you do the song and
dance posted in this thread:

Decelerate and come to a stop. Then:

Idle in Neutral for 5 mins. (manual trans.)

Idle in Drive for 5 mins. (Tiptronic trans.)

During the drive cycle, do not exceed 3,000 rpm or 60 mph.

Once these codes are reset, the car will run like a top again! I wouldn't
worry about it..the stalling issue will go away eventually if you can't pull off
the procedure above..

Are you serious? For a battery that went flat?

I've literally got 3 speed bumps and one traffic light I need to negotiate before I can even get to a road where I can do this reset test.
The car stalls at every attempt at slowing down or stopping for a traffic light...plus I need to keep my air con on.

While it is true that it takes the car a while to re-learn the running/idle patterns after a battery drain, your symptoms sound unusual if it dies every time.

If I disconnect my battery, it idles funny for a couple of drives and maybe dies. But it quickly fixes itself. The readiness codes are likely not related. That is all OBDII system related.

Good luck.

fuel filter possibly. when was the last time it was changed? these things will clog. setiment, will sometimes be picked up and disturb flow and cause an intermitant leanout. When you stop the car somtime it will settle out and run fine until you put a load on it. Just a guess.

True! Mine only stalls once or twice on the first and second drive after a full
reset. But definitely corrects itself pretty quickly

Cam, before tearing into the fuel filter. Are you running an oiled K&N filter?
That can gum up your MAF sensor which will cause rough idle and stalling
issues. I went through this earlier in the season. Also, I've read that its a
good idea to either replace or clean out the ISV valve as well. Carbon build
up leads to the same symptoms.

Hope that helps!

I would first , disconnect the battery for a few min. check the battery voltage disconnected,at least 12.5 volts. If battery is good reconnect and see if your problem has gone away before looking at other parts.

I was having a similar issue and tried everything: DME,MAF,ISV.Nothing helped.I finaly bought a new wiring harness(the section that goes to the Alt) and had it replaced.Problem solved. The old harness looks fine. This car was built in January of 96' and was not part of the "wiring harness recall" that effected the 94' and 95' cars.I believe allot of these gremlins have to do with chewed on or just old wiring harnesses.
I disconnect the battery's on my 993's all the time. Weeks, sometimes months, go by in between driving some of the cars in my collection and I never have had the types of startup issues described in the previous posts.
