Default High flow catalytic converter for 993

I am considering the Fister Stage 2 exhaust for my 993 C4S. While I'm at it should I add a high-flow cat? The exhaust is mostly for a better sound, but the high-flow cat is more for performance correct?

Has anyone heard of or used this company's high flow cats?

http://www.magnumtuning.com/en/detai...sche/911---993

What other high-flow cat brands are out there and which are a good value?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you are just going to get a cat, that will need to be welded in to your current exhaust after you cut out the old cat. For that price, I bet it's crap.

IMHO, the "best" HFC for our cars was the DACH X-pipe, but they are not longer being made. I think FSD has something in the works.

First............I'm sorry, those are UGLY! Beyond that, they are 300 cell, your stock is only 400 cell. They are ceramic core..........same junk on your car now, you want stainless steel core (what we used) if you're going to do anything. And without seeing them in person, could you even get those to fit and get someone to mod your stock pipe (which you wouldn't want to do because the metal of your stock cat will be horribly brittle by now and will probably crack within 3 months due to the stress brought on by the new welds)

If all you want is noise, go with muffs. Used sets of my stuff will pop up again, just be quick

Maybe I should get David working on building some sets of pipes again and when they are all done, whoever jumps first, gets pipes...............? We just don't have time for regularly scheduled building, and I know guys here want what they want when they want it

Just a thought

Hi

I had 100 cell cats welded into my original enclosure. They guy who did it was a good welder and he said it was a horrible job.

100 cell cats will give better sound and performance so for me are the mod of choice. Changing just the boxes seems pointless to me.

All the best

Berni

You're also in the UK where you don't have CEL issues with too high of a flow cat system Berni. Here that has to be in conjunction with a chip to program the issue out.

Agreed, I kick myself for not getting a set when I had a chance. I wouldn't miss it again if the opportunity came up.

I am doing a top end on my 993 3.6 and am doing what you want to do. I had my mufflers converted to the Fister II config and then purchased a sport cat from Fabspeed. Their sport cats have 200 cells per square inch and are beautifully made. The system is a bolt in and the cats can be removed and straight pipes bolted in if you want to track the car. The cat is pricey at about $1200 in the USA.

$1200, That's cheap! Your welcome for the ability to convert your pipes to a track set up. If you've been around long enough, you know what that means

I have two sets of welded up high flow cats for sale in the members section. The setups are made for a 1995 only (and wouldn't work with stock mufflers) but you can cut the cats out, they are both low mileage. One set has 200cpsi and the other has 100cpsi cats.

Default Fabspeed Sportcat + Fister Stage 2 = tried and true

Well Ernie that is what I decided to do too. The 200 cell cats are the right way to go based on all the research I have done. 100 will create CEL issues and can fail anyway. 300 is close to the stock 400 so why bother. The Fabspeed cats are 200 cell and well made so that is what I went with. The price is $1495 for the "993 Gillet Sportcat X-Pipe" - not sure where the $1200 pricetag went.

I am ordering the Fister Stage 2's as well. I have heard them on a local 993 and was amazed by the sound. Can't wait to get it all installed.

I have to do a Washington State Emissions Test first so I won't touch the stock system until that is done and I hopefully pass.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I have fister 2's now. Will installing fabspeed super cats increase sound level even more? Is the performance gain measurable? Love my fister 2's however wish I'd gone with the 3's.

Bill, from what I have heard from people and heard on cars, the 200 cell cats will increase the sound level of your fister 2's - maybe to a level that will make you forget about the 3's. Not sure how much power gain you'll get but Fabspeed does have some dyno charts on their site (5% increase +/- claimed). Will you be able to tell the difference - maybe not but since they are so expensive it's nice to know that it will improve both sound and hp even if subtle.
