Depends. Here in Houston all the cops use laser, which makes most detectors useless, as they use them right after an over pass and they shoot the laser up as the cars crest over. Hardly any scatter. I have a V1 but use it only on road trips at night, that's when state troopers use radar as they drive up and down the interstate. I agree situational awareness is your best defense.
I will say that the V1 is very dated. They need to update it. I mean, why does it weigh like 10lbs? I've had it drop on my leather dash and put a nice divot in it.

i agree, the V1 is dated, tested and true but its old tech...
Im on the fence about doing a 9500ci but the front of our cars dont really lend themselves to proper laser jamming or antenna mounting... which is pushing me towards the ease of hardwire mount of the 9500ix, $500 and your done with it... but you introduce smash and grab risks if you leave the car parked for dinner ect.
I installed a Escort Qi45 in my other car, and have been very impressed with its performance. Esp considering its not top of the line offering. It out performs my expectations, but its lack of GPS squelching sucks... its annoying around town in certain locations. the nice thing about Qi45, is that the newest version (8500ci) has built in GPS, and you can add in laser shifters later (they are of subjective quality though). And it can be done for around $800.00 verses the $1300+ for the 9500ci...
i dont see a way to custom install a 9500ci on our cars without removing the bumper cover which i recently saw a thread on, and that looks like a big job...

Ten pounds? The Valentine 1 weighs 6.2 ounces; that's a bit over a third of a pound. If the V1 were made of all carbon fiber, people would complain that it's too expensive. If the V1 were made of all plastic, people would complain that it feels cheap.
It sounds like your dash denting dilemma is due less to weight and more to sharp corners and a high mounting position.

Three things I have 1) passport radar 2) laser jammer (if you look at my avatar you can see the rear laser sensor just above license plate and I have two sensors in the front bumper )
3) clean n clear driver`s licence
.
Yes I also agree with do not fall for the " sense of security " be aware of your surrounding .

I have a hardwired V1 in my Turbo and it does not work half as well as the removable V1 I hang from my sun visor in my RS clone. The hard wired system is simply mounted to low to get any range out of it. I have run both hardwired and non in the same car at the same time. The difference in performance is major. If you want real protection install above the rear view mirror. This is Not an opinion. Read the install instructions.

No, Mark. There is no way to hardwire the unit high. It can't detect through metal.Where can you hardwire/conceal the unit above the rearview mirror? Inside the headliner does not work. Please enlighten me with your wisdom.
