Default REAL TIME HELP: Spoiler mod

As the title suggests I need assistance please.

I'm doing the manual only spoiler mod and don't want to butcher the job. I'm following the write up boman993.com. I have the connector apart but cannot get the wires free. Do the pins need to come out through the front of the connector? If so I pressed the pins into the connector without really thinking about it first, so that might be the problem.

Can the Renn Gods help a noob out before I go for the wire cutters? TIA.

Crisis averted! After staring for a few minutes I realized I did not have the connector all the way apart. After separation the pins were removed and everything is back buttoned up. Test drive successful, no lights on the dash and full manual operation retained. Thanks to boman993.com for the support. If anyone has any questions please let me know.

This mod gives you manual up/down of the rear spoiler? What's the benefit?

Z-nomore: No worries! Sorry I was late to reply! I read about this DIY on
Rennlist and documented my progress - I cannot take credit! Glad it worked
out though!! I had a bit of a hick-up, my spoiler raises, but does not return..
Haven't had the time to really troubleshoot it further..

P-Daddy: The mod disables the deployment of the spoiler at 80km/h and
above, but retains manual operation via your console button.

Ah..thanks for the explanation. I thought maybe some 993 didn't come with the console button.

Jakob,

Thanks again, great website!

I'll keep an eye out and see if my spoiler does the same thing. I have driven it once and it didn't deploy.

Next project is the FD Stage II's.

I'm just curious of the benefit of the mod. I understand you get manual control, but is it that you prefer not to have the spoiler deployed? -OR- You want it deployed at all speeds, etc.

Thx!

The spoiler is designed to deploy at 50 or so to aid engine cooling. So if you're driving at hwy speeds, have you guys noticed the temp gauge running higher?

on my car: at hwy speeds temp is just right around the 7:30 or so mark. I have not modded my spoiler, so it is always up at those speeds.

what I have noticed is that on hot days, around town, stop and go, where there is less air flow to the oil coolers, the temp creeps up to 8:30. I will manually deploy the spoiler typically, but that does not make any significant difference.

I believe the spoiler is more for aerodynamics (increased downforce) than engine temp control.

in response to the ?, my car runs cooler at hwy speeds.

I've noticed no change in engine temps with the spoiler down all the time, and no
stability/downforce issues at highway speeds. I'm sure if I was driving it on a
track at the car's limits, it would be a different story; but then I'd deploy the
spoiler manually with the button.
