After 14 years with my 993, I've finally added a second (with pics)
Hey Everybody,
As some of you may know, I've been looking for another 993. After searching for only 2 months I was fortunate to find 993 #2. It's a 1997 with 56K original miles. Arena Red on classic grey 6 speed NB coupe. It also has what I think are desirable extras: LSD, ABD, hollow spoke 18" twists, etc. One weird option the car has is a self-dimming rearview mirror. I've never seen this on a 993 and didn't realize it was an option.
I found the car in Wisconsin of all places. Fortunately, the car was only there for a year (originally from AZ) and never used in the winter. The car is really clean, but I resolve to make it my driver. I also to resolve to leave this one more or less stock, but we'll see how that goes.....
Why 2 similar 993s? Because these cars have pretty much ruined every other car (south of $70K) for me. In the 14 years I've owned my 993 #1, I've had some decent cars, none of which come close to the experience of a 993:
BMW e30 M3 -nice looking and handling car. Did not like that buzzy S14 engine (and mine was a 240hp 2.5).
BMW E30 325is - wonderful car, E30 M3 steering/suspension mods - much nicer to drive than the M3 IMO. Bulletproof. I miss that one.
BMW E46 M3 - nice engine, but the rest of the car was a big (fat) disappointment.
Boxster S - great steering and brakes. Found I dislike convertibles. Not built as well as the early cars. Not loving cable shifters.
Anyway, I picked up the car in WI and drove 2500 miles home in three days. I took the long way so I could sample some of my favorite roads in Montana and Idaho. The car was amazing - averaging 24 mpg (at uh, not exactly legal speeds) and didn't use a drop of oil for the trip. Here are some pics of the trip and of 993 #1 and #2 together.
Cheers,
Joe

Although I have only owned mine for 4 years, I totally agree with your statement: "I've had some decent cars, none of which come close to the experience of a 993"
Congrats and enjoy 993 motoring!

Awesome Congrats!
I'm just curious as to why another NB car instead of an S or C4S?

I really can't blame you for buying another 993. As my daily driver with 212,000 miles on it, I enjoy every minute of the 993 experience. Cheers.

Joe...best of luck with your #2.
Could you elaborate your response to your question in your first post. "Why 2 similar 993s? Because these cars have pretty much ruined every other car (south of $70K) for me."
Just wondering if the cars are different or if you see different uses for each. I know....One 993 is great. Two 993s are even better. But there must be something that you are not telling us.
Enjoy them both.

Joe, beautiful car, I really love the color Having owned mine for less than a month, I agree that it has ruined me for future cars, a 993 is definitely like no other.
Congrats and enjoy!
I am curious to get your thoughts on the differences you feel with the standard suspension of your new car compared to what you have on your old car? I'm starting to dip my toe into the "I want to modify my suspension" posts....lots of options of course. I really like how my car rides and I don't want to lose that...what I'd like to improve is its cornering ability and of course lower the car a bit. I seem to be leaning towards to M033 with Koni FSDs. Just wondering what your impressions are driving both cars back-to-back?

You are a very lucky man! The good thing is you seem to know it, which puts me at ease knowing there are two more loved.and well-maintained 993s on the road.
