$100 off 4 tires
Those folks who need tires might want to check http://www.discounttiredirect.com They are offering $100 pre-paid card with purchase of any 4 tires. I believe this ends on May 13th.
No affiliation but I've used them for the past 10 years or so. I prefer them to Tire Rack for numerous reasons, among them the fact that shipping is included in price. Of 20+ orders I had one issue that was quickly resolved to my satisfaction. Which is much more than I can say of the Rack after ordering from them fro close to 20 years (boy, I'm ancient). I believe that you left coast people can order, get $100 and get them installed in local Discount tire free, but I might be wrong.
Good luck ladies and gentlemen.

Do these discount places guarantee a max tire age when you order? I want to make sure I don't buy a tire that's already a year or two old. On my P-cars that's not really an issue, but for my other vehicles, I don't always consume the treads prior to replacing due to age...

Other than one experience with Tire Rack (with 13" race Kumhos V710) all tires I've gotten so far had been very fresh. I guess you can call them and ask for date code if that's a concern.

Mark, do you run S.Drive on the street?
I'm debating my next set of 993 tires with myself (street with 5-10 AXs a year but more for fun than for real points in this car). Leaning towards R1Rs on 17" rims. The issue is that i have 3 sets of 18" rims here. I'm running R1Rs in 18" now and like them quite a lot but, boy, are they expensive. GF started autocrossing and 993 pulls that duty as I don't want her on race tires in a Miata - not the right set of learning tools.

I do. No track work with the Miata. I got about 36,000 miles out of my S.drives. Fantastic tires. Excellent dry and rain capabilities. Even when I was down to the wear bars, the tires were acceptable in the rain (save for very deep water, of course).
I just hit the steel belts a couple of days ago and have my fresh set of S.drives ready to go.

I love dtd!!! Great post Mike..
Prices, selection, brands, customer service, and shipping make it easy buying new tires. I had to replace my front conti sport IIs, major inner wear due to poor previous alignment, yet the rear conti DWs had very little life left and I didn't like how she felt with P285/30's powering thru turns plus the noise was getting to me.
So, I purchased a set of Falken Azenis PT-722 as/summer. Frt. P235/40 on 8.5" and Rr. P265/35 on 10". I went with these after reading solid reviews on the website. I love the fitment so far, the car is lighter on its feet and very planted. I purchased the certificate too, which means I get a brand new tire sent to me at no cost if there is a defect or blowout etc.. cant beat the 40,000 mile warranty either

I have bought AT LEAST a dozen sets of tires from them in the past 5-6 years and never received a date code that was older than 8-9 months. Earlier this year, I got a set of SUV sized Goodyears that had a date code that was only 5 weeks old! That's pretty amazing when you consider that they had to be produced, ordered by Discount, shipped to discount, put into Discount's inventory, ordered by me and then shipped to me!

The last set I got for both the Porsche and Miata came from this place and they proved a great place to do business with.
