Default I think I've decided what to do with regard to wheels

I've been all over the map on wheels; MY02, Sport Design, Kinesis, Fikse, on and on. I keep coming back to the Cup II's, but with a little spice added. I've got a wheel refinisher near me, who happens to support the local PCA region, and I dropped by to talk to him today. My wheels are pretty nice, but with a couple of chips from the years, and I want to refinish them. I was thinking about a gray color, but he has a mult-part process he calls Hypersilver that looks pretty nice. It's kind of a "candy" coating for wheels. I want something different, but not too dark, as I'm not a fan of dark cars with wheels that are too dark. Contrast is good, IMO.

Here's a pic of a truck wheel he'd refinished thusly, against Sapphire and her stock wheel color. I am going to pick one of my upcoming travel weeks to have him do the job.

Hypersilver, a multi part process (black undercoat, translucent top coat ,clear), is what RUF uses on the 19" RUFS.

Great color! Downside? Expensive to repair when (and I mean when ) do scuff the wheel, or a rock marks it.

It will look great!

Cheers,

Mike

I think they will indeed look great. Any finish has its vulnerabilities, but I'm going to give it a go. If it doesn't hold up over time, I'm not too far into them on cost, that I can't reverse direction.

I think they can powder coat over fresh paint. Something to look in to..I can't imagine a coat of clear with little to no prep work costing more than a couple bills, and would make the finish infinitely more durable. $.02

Ed -
Here is another option and one I've been considering for my Cup II's. Do the centers in stahlgrau (steel grey) like on the Vesuvius C2S.

Size: 32.1 KB

Here are the details for the stahlgrau color that were generously provided by a RLister "Silver Box":

The color code of the extras on Carerra S is:

Stahlgrau metallic MAT POR61W or in glasurit: P61W

This color comes originally in MAT. The shift **** brake handle wheels mirrors and door handles, Of Course, have lacquer applied after.
Keep this code handy, I had to be in Germany and it wasn't easy to get.

Full color code with Sikkens (Akzo Nobel), impossible to get from Glasurit

Color Mix for 1 Liter:

666 ----- 393.7
00 ---- 394.8
575 ---- 395.9
952 ---- 398.2
744 ---- 493.8
333DF ----- 606.3
333C ----- 730.0
333CS ----- 966.2

Give this mix codes to your local sikkens dealer, and you got the color.

Not yet. Haven't been trying to sell it either. Just sitting in the garage.

Hey, Ed. I like the color a lot. When I opened this thread and looked at your picture, I was like, "This is a joke, right?" I saw that huge wheel and started laughing. Can't wait to see what you do!

On a more serious note, I think that color will look really cool and can't wait to see it on your rims. I have hypersilver on my five spoke Sequoia wheels, and they look terrific. My '02 Sequoia had the pure silver wheels off of a Tundra, and they always seemed a tad blander than hypersilver.

The iPhone pic certainly doesnt do it justice-it has that translucent/candy depth to it. It really catches the eye without being too blingy, if that makes sense. They do clear them and say they hold up pretty well. But, we know, if you let a Cup II fall on its face, all bets are off.

tommyg-that color looks nice too.
