Pits in windshield
My new to me 993 has significant pitting in the front windshield
Has any one heard of a way to fill, polish, or buff this out? It is not bad enough to replace though.

Toddster,
Nothing to do but replace it. I did mine for exactly that reason at 25,000 miles. Driving into the sun was pretty much IFR and not safe. I believe the Sigla (sp?) OEM glass is made of the softest material available. I've never seen a ws pit as fast.

I have the same issue...have tried everything. I will replace soon and make sure to polish with newspaper regularly (supposedly it helps)

Kent,
Nothing helps.... I've got 15,000 miles on the new ws and the same issue with the OEM glass. And that's with 2,500 miles a year of driving in no winters, no slop and almost never in the rain. My 65,000 DD Acura MDX ws looks better.

Yup, ya just gotta live with it.
The windshield of the wife's 16 yr. old daily driver (Fraud Contour SE) - with 120,000 miles -- is CLEAR*ER* than the SECOND windshield in my 44,000 mile 993.
:-(

Been there done that. I would not replace the windshield unless it's cracked. It's very difficult (and expensive because ins co won't cover it) to find OEM glass and most places can't install it right to begin with. So there is a high probability that it will leak, squeak, creak, and drive you nuts. Get some polarized sunglasses and be done with it.

I'm mulling over replacing my pitted windshield too. Visibility is bad when driving into the sun. Since only expensive OEM windshields are available now I'm investigating Clearshield window protection film. It just might be worth it.

I was thinking about this as well. Internet grumblings had mixed reviews. I was at the track with a guy who had it on his Z06..you could tell it was there, but considering what our windshields cost and how easily they pit, it might not be a bad compromise. It was a race car though, I'm sure they weren't concerned about a few bubbles and some debris, could surely be done a bit better I think.

your insurance may cover it as well. Mine did, i just replaced it and sent the bill. I did have a decent size chip, but no one ever checked it out and i got a refund a few weeks later.
