Just a suggestion, you may already be doing this....

loosen the bolts in stages when you're working with higher torque applications, you don't want to get to the last one or two bolts and have all the pressure from the plate resisting that one bolt. I always use a crisscrossing pattern and loosen the bolts a little at a time and the first loosening step is very, very small to make sure all bolts break free. As soon as the majority of pressure is off the bolts then I can start removing them in much larger steps.

I loosen them in pretty much the same (reverse) sequence as they need to be tightened.

Hope this makes sense.

Interesting - the pressure plate bolts are supposed to be at 17 ft-lbs if I remember correctly - that is not really tight. I wonder why they are frozen in?

When putting in the rear main seal, be careful with the edge of the seal. I have the proper tool to do this, but its not cheap, but essentially its a large diameter ring that puts the pressure evenly on the edge of the seal. You can mock something up, or gently tap it in, working your way around the seal.

Best of luck!

Cheers,

Mike

Place the old RMS on top of the new one and use it to tap in, in a circular motion, a little bit at a time so it doesn't go in cockeyed.

As for the PP bolts, I also had some strip out but I was able to use a mid size pair of vice grips on the head and they all loosened up nicely. You may want to give that a shot also.

Wasn't feeling well all day, heading back in the garage tomorrow. Thanks for the tips, will work with them tomorrow. Tried vice grips right after stripping them and did not have luck. I will try again tomorrow before cutting the heads off.

After cutting the heads off, what's your next move?

I should be able to slide the pressure plate off after that, then I can get to the flywheel bolts.

got a new cheesehead set and was able to get the stripped ones out. Cleaned the heads of the stripped ones and lightly tapped the new bit into them. Came out easily. Installing rms now.

Another tip if you have stripped heads is to use a chisel and hammer in the counterclockwise direction...this is a good thing to try before cutting or drilling.
