Paul Stephens (UK) sells kits to backdate the 964 - there have been plenty of write-ups in 911 and EVO magazines. I think Ferry Porsche criticized the 993 after a test drive because he could no longer see the front wings. I assume it was because of their design and not failing eyesight.

OP, I feel ya. I would love to have something that looked like a long hood porsche and had all the creature comforts of my 993.

Attempting this with a 993 is lunacy, IMO. It can be done with a 964 or earlier car with not much trouble (I did it) and donor cars are plentiful, so why on earth would anyone want to cut up a 993? What you end up with will NOT feel like a 993 and will not duplicate the feel of an early car either, and will probably be heavier than a 964-based or 911-based tribute car. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

NP993,

You make a valid point... So, how difficult (impossible??) would it be to retrofit a 993 rear suspension into a 964 chassis? Maybe a dumb question... But, the idea is appealing.

If you want a serious old school 911 start with an old 911. Phone Richard at Tuthills Porsche and tell him what you want, then you get the full driving experience that a 993 can never give you. A raw 300bhp+ 70s car, EXE-TC suspended, wide body weapon.

That what I want.

Purely out of curiosity, if the 993's body is soooo different than an earlier 911's, then how come I always see older 911's fitted with 993 bodies? I don't understand how it's easier to go one direction and not the other.

Yes, the kits then raise the front hood.

Are you referring to raising the latching mechanism?
