Default Has anyone "backdated" a 993 to a 73 RSR look yet?

Guys,

Has anyone seen anything about anyone backdating a 993 to a classic long-bonnet , wide bodied, style RSR ????

I'm sure I read about at least one that had been done - but can't seem to find it despite searching for a while?

Thanks!

I am pretty sure there is a thread on Pelican. Cant remember the user name. Every once in awhile it gets resurrected and I get a notice.

It's frankly a pretty bananas idea. A 964 is no problem, but a 993 is whole other level of complexity. All four fenders are wrong, and most importantly, the hood line is higher. Major surgery involved. Makes no sense when the 964 platform is so straightforward. There's a reason the Singer 911's don't use the 993 platform.

I foundeled with the idea for a little bit. Major issue is the hood since it sitting higher. It could be done.

I'm going to convert mine into a Pontiac Fiero. I mean, why not? Nobody's done it before. The pinnacle of air-cooled technology joined with the best-looking 1980's Pontiac.

Well sorry to have an opinion.....

.....I don't particularly LOVE the 993 shape....I LIKE it - hey I've owned about 5 of them including an 993RS and a 993GT2............BUT.......the classic shape was what I aspired to own when I was a kid growing up......

I've sold all my modern 911's and I want something as a toy...a Singer is an option......but I think I can get exactly what I want by playing with a 993....yes it will be hard......but aren't all things that are worth doing....???

You could clear a forest with a hand saw, but it's easier to use a chain saw. You could build a ship out of toothpicks and glue, but it's easier to use wood and fiberglass. Just because something is hard doesn't mean it's worthwhile.

As far as the RSR conversion. The only thing the 993 has over the 964 in this regard is the rear suspension and the six-speed gearbox. The latter is an easy conversion. And the former is a pretty marginal item compared to how difficult it'd be to start with the 993 platform. But, as they say, to each his own. Good luck.

Quick Reply: Has anyone "backdated" a 993 to a 73 RSR look yet?
