Cars been out of hibernation for a few weeks now and am super happy to have it back on the road. I currently not 100% happy with the way the car handles. It has eibach springs with bilstein shocks which I can only assume are over 7 years old. The stance in my opinion is perfect so I don't really want to mess with that. I do however feel that the car doesn't handle the road as well as it should. It seems relatively darty and uneasy over bumps and road imperfections. The tires are still relatively new (Kuhmo Esta's-I know) but they have even wear and are properly inflated. Not sure where to start. I am installing a set of Walrod Control arm bushings as well as Wevo motor mounts (black pillow) next weekend. Curious to see what kind of difference that will make. Realistically however the only 993 I've driven is my own so maybe the handeling is normal.
Boy, I hope the guy doing the bushings knows what he is doing
We can go for a quick drive before we get into the install. I can also do a quick check of the alignment while the car is here to make sure nothing is out or wack.....
If its lowered then the GT2 carriers and track rods are great! Bushing will help but the GT2 mods made the most difference to my car. As yours is, mine was skitty and twitchy at the front over anything but flat roads, bump steer has been reduced big time by this change
I would go and see George at Tunedub, he has the kinematic tool and knows how to use it..... Not sure what he charges, I do all my own wheel alignments...
One thing to keep in mind is that 18" wheels contribute significantly to the twitchiness/tramlining feeling of a 993. I have both the stock 17" cups and the MY02 18" wheels for my car. The difference in road feel and front end dartiness is quite noticeable. IMHO, the 18's look better but the 17's are easier to live with.
Before I replaced my shocks and springs two years ago, i installed new Walrod Control arm bushings, it was like i had new suspension. No more shimmy when braking or that floating feeling when driving. My 95 had 62,000 miles on it the the bushings were shot. You may notice a huge difference in handling.
