Default Gotchas when going ROW Sport Suspension on your USA 993

Dear Rennlisters,
I am about to begin a shade-tree coilover install on my 993. I have now gathered most of the parts to get the job done.
I recently read the comprehensive 993 suspension page on P-car.com.
It makes several references to using factory springs as an option to lower and convert a USA 993 to ROW M030 sport suspension.
THE 993.333.531.11-504 ROW rear M030 springs for non-turbo 993 are no longer available new and salvage yards are reluctant to go through their spring piles to find a customer a used set.
For this reason options that include ROW M030 rear springs cannot be easily achieved anymore.
After an extensive analysis of the aftermarket offerings the closest thing I can find is to install the H&R Coil Over kit 29954-1 that comes with progressive springs.
Also with the refresh contemplated some of the key parts to consider replacing with the struts are ” Germany Only” parts where even if you call a dealer in Germany they are not allowed to ship them to the USA due to their distribution agreement with Porsche . I had to have parts shipped to a friend in Munich who forwarded them to me.
Here are the parts involved:
• Quantity (2) 993-331-217-01 - ECCENTRIC SCREW – Located on the inboard end of the lower struts L&R that is detached to install the rear coil-over assembly. The ones on the 993 were updated by Porsche early on, along the way and the threads on the existing screws are known to sometimes be in poor condition.
• Quantity (2) 993-333-511-01 (or alternate part numbers ending in 00 or 02 ) - ADJUST SLEEVE 5.5MM - a dense Urea foam rubber part that the L&R springs fit against on the upper rear spring mount.
• Quantity (2) 993-341-511-01 RUBBER GASKET goes between the upper front mount and the body sheet metal. I will do my install in the next few weeks and verify that this gasket fits correctly as the part number may only fit the OE adjustable camber plate upper mount. The standard mount part number is discontinued so if needed it may be necessary to make one by hand out of neoprene rubber.

The cars get older and the parts get harder to find!

Hope the above is found to be useful.
Andy

Are you sure? I just bought a set of these in Feb 2012 from Sunset Porsche.
They were in a warehouse in the US and didn't even have to ship from Germany.

Just received 2 weeks ago & had installed ROW M030 & Bilstein B8's for all 4 corners from Gert. Total cost shipped from Belgium to Florida was $1500 US.

I went to two US dealers & Pelican Parts, a dealer in the UK and a dealer in Germany and they all said that the rear M030 993.333.531.11-504 springs were no longer available. Sunset must have a special line on these. In any event, I stand corrected.
I installed the H&R coilover kit in my driveway. The fronts went on easily took me about 2 hours. The rears took a lot longer because the struts that must be removed to drop the wheel carriers had really tight bolts to the subframe. I ended up using my hydraulic jack under the car to push up against a box wrench to get them loose. I preset the coilover spring perch heights at the high end of the range H&R specifies for the 993 for the front and about the middle of the range for the rear. Now that they are on the car I did some measurements and determined that when I have fresh tires installed the height should fall within ROW M030 tolerances so the car should take an alignment to factory set-up values without a problem. The car’s ride is very firm on 18” wheels.

Sunset doesn't have a special source for Porsche parts

Post some "after" shots!
Congrats on the new setup :-)

Andy - How are you liking the H&R Coil Over Kit? This is a set-up I am interested in, but not a lot of 993 people reviewing it. Please update your experience now that you have had some time with them. Photos are greatly appreciated.

Have had my 993 for just 90 days and last weekend finished my DIY install of my Bilstein HD's and ROW lowered M030's..which were readily available from FD Motorsports.
