Default Mean Girl ... aka .. 'baby gets a new pair of shoes ... '

Ok .. summers coming and SpeedArena wanted a new look. She's really a badass at heart so we decided to do a painted wheel to match the body color with a brushed lip to break the color/tire ....

I saw some black 996 TT wheels on eBay awhile back for sale from WheelDynamics in L.A. http://www.wheeldynamics.net/ and I called them and asked about doing a set exactly the same only in Arena Red .. and the owner, Eli said they could absolutely do that and they would sell me the wheels as well. So the first try wasn't a good paint match (my bad entirely ...) and the brushed lip was too small a width for me, so I drove the car down to a local auto paint supplier and had some paint custom matched to the cars body, sent that down .. and I had the brushed lip widened to the full edge. Also, I noticed in the trial run that my existing Advan 285/30 rears were a bit too narrow for the wider 996 TT 10.5+" rears so Eli said they could supply and mount new matching 295/30 Yoko Advan's and ship them up all done .. so all I had to do is get the fronts swapped over and I decided to do the wheel mounting myself ..

So .. the wheels/tires arrived yesterday and of course, I had to get to it first thing today

First I have to say Eli and Wheel Dynamics did an excellent job .. the quality of their work is fantastic, right down to the color matched wheel caps ...

Second I have to tell you that having those 9m longitudinal stiffeners in there makes jacking this car up at home and putting her on jackstands a piece of cake!!

Once I got the front wheels off, I loaded them and the new painted front wheels into the car and went down to my local Monroe Tire company ... the Tire Rack installer in my town ... and they did an excellent job making sure nothing got scratched in the process ...

Once I got back, I got to work cleaning the summer mileage off the brake calipers and wheel well bits .. letting all that 9m goodness shine through!

Spray-on tire dressing on the fender liners ... a little trick I learned from Arena993 right here on RL .. (thanks, Mike! ) Looks like the day she came off the boat again ...

Look at them Fister Cermachrome cans all nestled in there ..

Here's the new rears with the 295's still in their stickers .. I love that ..

... And .. done, ready to come down off that single jackpoint ....

And .. here she is .... with a little attitude for the summer ..

I left the 5mm spacers in all the way around .. wasn't sure if they would clear with the 295's but it's ALL good ..

Looks great, JP!

How do you like those tires? They might be my next choice over the current Kumho's that I really like.

Thanks! Yes .. I can highly recommend them. When I bought the car as a Cab, the previous owners had just put them on and when I saw the tread I thought 'well .. these probably won't be any good in the rain .. ' and it immediately started pouring rain .. and I was in Seattle and had to get in the car and drive back to California that day .. and they performed brilliantly. And then, when I experienced the ride, and grip in good weather I was completely sold on them. Great tire and they seem to be wearing very well to boot

Stance is perfect and glad you didn't go for the goofy 'Mater' look up front.

Would perhaps suggest clear markers.

Knowing that I've done something that you don't approve of is like the gift that keeps on giving ..

Here's what's funny .... I saw this look on all the 'corporate' 997's in the boss's parking lot at Zuefenhausen in 2009 .... so ... I kinda 'stole' it but I'm sure they got the idea from looking at street cars in L.A. ...
