95 ; 993, cant get into gear properly, I hear clunking in the shifter linkage looking from inside the car, inside the shifter boot. It came on very fast, car drove fine, I parked, and then the problem. I thought it was the bolt under the car on the shifter linkage but that was fine???
Anyone know what might be the problem?

No expert here, but try removing the transmission tunnel cover under the car. You may see a plastic cup and ball socket gizmo that connects the shift lever to the shift rod. These can wear out and come loose. If this diagnosis is correct, you owe me a beer. Get the FDM short-shift kit with "golden rod" to fix it.

Not sure what you are referring to. There Is a rubber boot covering the shift linkage; and inside a bolt that has come loose in the past causing a similar problem. But I checked this and the bolt is tight. Where Is the plastic cup & ball socket you referred to located.?

Underneath the car, there is a cover that unbolts from the bottom. It is long and narrow, and goes from the shift linkage area to the transmission. Unbolt this and look for the plastic ball and socket, which are underneath the linkage..

what they said ^^^
the ssk diy on the FDM site linked above will help
I'd bet Steve is correct
likely the front ball/cup failed... It is at the opposite end of the linkage from the bolt at the shift rod you referred to

So do I just replace the part # 16 & 24 ; or put a short shift kit?
If I replace the short shift kit; anyone know the best one to get. And how long of a job is it to replace

If the ball joint failed, then you would probably only need to replace the plastic insert in the cup - that's the part that wears and fails. It costs less than $10. BUT - be prepared for it to fail again when you least expect it. Fit at minimum the golden rod, and whilst you are in there you might as well go for a short shift too.
