Default Another Exhaust Thread

Before anyone takes me to task, I searched and couldn't find any (recent) commentary that addresses my question about aftermarket exhaust options...

I picked up a 96 C2 a few weeks back, and I've found it sorely lacking in the aural department. I'd like to add an exhaust that brings out the character of the air-cooled engine, drops some weight off the back, and maybe liberates a little power. I'm aware that bypass mufflers generally only cover the first 2 objectives.

A lot of the existing threads predate the popularity of the Fister exhausts, so I'm curious about their interaction with headers and X-pipes.

Finally, I'd like the car to be loud - I think it sounds very wimpy with the stock mufflers, even at WOT with the windows down or in a parking garage, etc. - my only real disappointment with the car thus far. That said, I don't want it to drone terribly or sound like a big ol' V8, either.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance

Thoughts? Fister III, easy install, no drone and they pack a crackle- pop on the down shift, fun as Hell

Default You want loud?

If you want to set off car alarms, **** off your neighbors, nearly drive yourself out of the cabin, what else but?

Fabspeed Super Cups***
Fabspeed X pipes with cat delete option
Headers? You don't need them, they are already built into the 993.

If you want something a little more on the mild side:
Fabspeed X pipes
FD Motorsports Stage III mufflers

Post what part of the world you are in, there may be a Rennlister nearby that will give you a demo.

***I love Fabspeed SuperCups...problem is, there are a few tracks such as Laguna Seca where I cannot pass sound...they are louder than 92dB.

My Fabspeed X Pipes and FD Motorsports Stage 1 muffs passed sound at Thunderhill which I believe to be a 100 dB sound restriction level.

Just a wee bit, but the overall sound is incredible. They come up used on Rennlist from time to time. I have bought and sold a few sets. Priced new, not that bad, really, about $800 a pair.

good advice there...

post up where you live, and you'll probably have a good chance at listening to different aural combinations from Rl'ers near you.

I have Stage lll's and love em, I think adding a Dach X or cat bypass would just be too much for the wife and daughter-let alone my neighbors.

I have heard supercups, even when angry-tough not to love, but might be too much depending on how you plan on using the car.

Stage lll's can be pretty civilized if you go light on the loud pedal, absolutely no drone, and decent at highway speeds.

Best of luck...rewards everyday with the right muffler mod.

I had Fister IIIs with high flow cats (either 100 or 200 cell) and it was too much for me. Switched them out with some RSRs. Any high flow or cat delete parts will amplify the sound of the muffler options.

Fister Stage IIIs produce a pretty nice bite

IMHO anything more is beyond the car's performance.

You CANNOT make an evaluation on Youtube. You NEED to hear in person. You also need to think about what you'll want once the "loud" novelty wears off, or you get popped 'cuz a cop a block away heard you get on the gas. It amazes me how many muffler bypasses have been bought for pre-89 1/2 911's, and you see all of the "wow" "awesome" comments from the owners. Then, they end up in the classifieds or on ebay two weeks later.

PM Shadow993. He's tried a few of the 'louder' options noted here... and then regretted the choice. IMO focus on quality not quantity. P!ssing off the neighbors and local plod does none of us any favors. For me the StgII is perfect. Never heard the StgIII but many like it.

I can't imagine a human wanting more than what Stage III gives. Just take off your mufflers if you want more.

To the points above. If you want something louder, now your getting a ticket. If you want a different tone, then mixing something with Stage III could be a good solution.
