The car just won the top award The Sponsorship Award at Porsche Palooza in Eureka Springs, AR in November, 2011. Over 100 cars in the car show.

The car was chosen to be the 993 example at the unveiling of the new 991. Each model of the 911 was asked to be on the floor of the dealership during the event.

I have all receipts for work performed as well as over 100 pictures detailing the restoration process. There are absolutely no chips, scrapes, dings, rubs or damage to the paint. The interior is as clean. Most people think the car is brand new. The car has been driven a total of 8031 miles since the restoration/mechanicals were done. The only issues with the care are

1. The CCU cut out on me once but worked fine after I pulled it and cleaned the contacts. The CCU’s are supposed to be finicky in 993’s it cut out on me when I was on a 9 hour trip for a minute or so. I felt it was necessary to mention in order to have full disclosure. It also may be the high speed fan resistor which is known to fail. It has worked with no issues so I haven’t researched it any further.

2. The odometer quit working when the previous owner had it. I replaced the odometer gears and all is functioning properly. I made the previous owner refund a portion of my purchase price through small claims court. We never had a decision by a judge we came to a meeting of the minds. The odometer gears do fail in these cars and it would have not stopped me from the purchase as I was going to restore the car anyways. I just believe in full disclosure. There is no reflection of this in the Carfax or the title just informing you in the spirit of full disclosure.

I just wanted to surprise you Mike.
The cylinder you are talking about is cylinder 2.
Of the ten 993's i have had on my lift, SEVEN had a cylinder base seepage, either cylinder 1 or 2, never any other cylinder.
my 993 included... I changed to thicker oil at that time, and it did not leak from there anymore. Not a solution, but ...all to say that this , to me, is common on cyl 1 or 2, why ? I do not know
I hope this does not worry you. I am very solemn

Damn, Mike, I had no idea you were selling Sir Smurfs-A-Lot. Your car is one of my favorites. Hmm....

I hope everything works out for you. If your buyer falls out, let me know.

I like your honesty, its good Mike!

Its not worth taking it apart to change out the cylinder base ring (if that is where its coming from).

There are a few potential spots to leak around that area, including the oil return tubes. Have you definitely pinpointed it to the base O rings?

If it was my car, I would do what you are doing, disclose and see what happens. I would not deeply discount much more unless the oil was pouring out of the engine - if it drips at times, then sometimes changing weights/brands of oil can help it, but its always cheaper to put oil in the car than fix the smaller leaks, especially one this deep.

If you are selling at a discount, I am sure there will be buyers out there willing to ignore it.

On your leakdown, you did have one piston a bit high - 8% - what did your mechanic say about that one?

Cheers,

Mike

Mike, say it isn't so!

Does the 997 come in Rivi Blue?

I see some seepage under may car at the base of the cylinder, but I am hoping it is just being blown around as the cam chain cover gasket is leaking on the same side (I know that the cam cover is behind the engine - but I am keeping a positive atitude.) I've cleaned it up and will watch it. I assume you have cleaned yours up and verified that is the source.

This is helpful. I knew AOW's was the firing order, but didn't know the cylinder orientation.

When I bought the car it had been sitting for not quite a year. The PO did drive it to meet the transporter and I drove it 17 miles to my mechanic. My mechanic said that it is a bit odd that one cylinder is higher, but it may be because of it not being driven. Of course as documented here the odometer was broken when I bought the car which is why I wanted the leakdown. I am going to have it done again to see where it stands. If it needs a TOR it's just part of the 993 ownership. I was glad to see that the 8% leakdown was not on the cylinder that's leaking, or at least I hope it's not. I really don't have a ton of knowledge around the engine I'm more paint, body, interior.

I am assuming because I'm going on my limited knowledge. My mechanic said that's most likely the place as it is somewhat common. It's definitely not the valve cover gaskets I do know that.

Wow. I just noticed this post.
I was one of the people that spoke to Mike about buying his rivi blue cab (we spoke on Saturday). After reflecting on it over the weekend I decided to pass due to the fact that I'd have to find a storage place to park it. I figured that unless I could have it in my garage at home it wasn't meant to be.
The price being discussed was VERY fair to the buyer. I am far from being a mechanic but I wouldn't let this issue detract you from considering his car due to:
1) the price is already discounted severely to market value
2) uniqueness of this car
3) you are buying the seller as well as buying the car. I.E. Mike is a standup guy and u are buying his reputation.

I'm guessing from reading this post that not many really knew the car was available for sale. It seems many here have an interest in it. Do consider it. It's a GREAT car.

Degrease the engine and make sure. Guessing can cost you a lot of money; money that you might not have to spend.
