Default QUESTION - Anyone driven Hankook RS3 on Widebody?

After the AD08 became very expensive, I am looking for alternatives for "dual use" and ended up with the Hankook RS3. I have a C4S and the revs match well for this combination:

Front: 245/40/18
Rear: 285/35/18

I am driveing the 996 Turbo Hollow spoke rims and would like to know if someone has any experience with this combination.

Thanks.

I have the Kankook V12 on the exact same rims. Looking to replace it with a set of RS3 as well and curious to hear the reviews. The 285 does seem slightly stretched on the 18x11 rim though (at least on the V12 tire).

Not exactly the same, but 996nb with the R-S3's and dual use. Just one DE so far but equal to RE-11's. More than fine on the street. I'll probably buy them again.

They don't like to be cold and they don't like cold weather. The dropoff in grip when they're not up to temp is very apparent.

I run them on my Toyota daily driver and will probably put them on my 964 when the time comes.

I can't help with the question but I have a C4S and my tire sizes are different?:

Front: 225/40-18
Rear: 285/30-18

Jeff,
You have the stock tire sizes for the stock C4S wheels. e9 is running a slightly different setup (really /35/, not /30/ in the back???) and he's on 11" wide rear wheels. I run Hankook V12 ventus on my C4S at:
245/35/18
285/30/18
The extra width in the front really helped me dial out some understeer (or perhaps I was just going into AX turns too fast...).

The important thing is to match tire rev/min within <+-5% or you degrade the viscous coupler in the C4S. Lots of combo's get you close. Just Google "tire calculator".

You need more rear tire, it should be a 295 & 245 is pushing it on the front, it might rub.

The tires have great grip, but do not like the cold, & are very greasy when cold.

Thanks for the replies so far. The RS3 do not come in 295/30/18 which would have been my preference, correct? Too bad that the nittos do not come in a proper rear size...

Had them on my previous car, I really liked them, and they're pretty cheap (I previously ran NT05's and F1 Supercars on this car). I'd get them again in a heartbeat for the 993 but I spend a lot more time on the highway than I used to..that and my sizes are on back order right now!

Thread revival since this is the exact question I was looking to answer....

My Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 110 tires are toast following street, AX and track miles. I milked the fronts hard to get 3 full sets of rears, but the full set is toast now...as they should be! I'm looking for something with a little more grip for AX events...

One option was to get more Evo 110s for the street and Nitto NT01s for AX and track. Then I stumbled on the Hankook R-S3 (stumbled since I forgot about this thread). It seems like a good middle ground...and possibly no swapping wheels for AX & part time DD duty.

OP, how did the sizing work for you? Any rubbing or fitment issues with the taller tire (0.4" front and rear)? Only difference is my 993 turbo twist hollows vs your 996s, so 1" in the rear width.

The 245/40 would give me pause. I've seen the Nitto NT01 in a 245/40 series on the front of a 993 (cgfen's yellow wheels) with 996tt wheels. They didn't rub but were VERY close. I would think given gripier pavement than the AX venue we were at you could load the car up a bit more and could get rub. I have also heard of a slammed front end 993 running 245/40 catch the metal on the fender and cause pretty serious damage. I'd be safe and go 235/40 and adjust the rear to match the stagger you are going for.

After double checking this morning, I'm seeing slight rub on the inside of the fender at the back of the front tires with my 245/35/18s. And with my very, very low ride height in the rear, the additional 0.4" height of the 285/35/18 (vs 285/30/8) will eat up what little margin I have to the fender. I was trying to keep the widths since the R-S3's come in that width (but wrong 993WB aspect ratio...), but no can do.

Since the Nitto NT01 and Hankook R-S3 only come in a few sizes (and NOT the stock 993 WB sizing...), looks like 275/35 and 235/35 that you run, Adam, is the max I can stuff in there (yeah, yeah, I should have just trusted your homework.... ).

I was hoping to use the sticky but streetable R-S3 as an AX+street tire versus swapping from street tires to NT01s... Yeah, I'm a bit lazy...
