Cam- Not sure the Hard Rock was open back then. The Dubai Creek Golf course had just opened. East side of the Creek was still the old Souk. Almost all desert from the West side of the Creek to Abu Dhabi. Kinda changed since then.
In Abu Dhabi they has just started making Lulu Island. They were knocking down all the 4 storey buildings and putting up 8 storey ones in place. Since then I've heard all the 8's have come down and 20+ are going up. Yaz Island was a swamp.

I haven't been back to the UAE for a few years (they were just firing up the fountains @ the Burj last time I was there) & miss the good times at Buddha Bar & various spots in the Madinat Jumeirah. Before my first trip to the UAE I thought I'd hate it, but it turned out to be one of my favorite places to travel to.

Hope to get back there some day.
