Default No charging issue at all!

There is no charging issue at all. I have the Clewett pulley on my NA RS clone and the factory 993 RS Alt/Fan conversion on my Turbo. The A/C works great on both cars as well as the charging system. I have never had any CEL lights thrown because of a pulley change. Both pulleys generate between 12.6 to 12.9 amps when the cars are running.

Part of my post that I did a poor job of clarifying is that if the effective diameter of top and bottom pulleys for the serpentine belt mod are the same as OE fan and crank pulleys .... then the ratio of the driven speeds of the fan remain constant with crank speed: in both serpentine belt and RS hub mods, the alternator shaft is locked to the fan hub ..... so in both cases, the alternator is 'under driven'. eg Serpentine = RS wrt alternator speed.

The only way for the serpentine mod to achieve OE charging rates is to overdrive OE fan speed ( by pulley diameter change from OE) .... perhaps that is the case .... but I did not read any promo claiming "improved engine cooling", so unless otherwise advised, I'd think that OE fan speed was maintained.

One thought is that if one were to be interested in doing the factory lightened RS crank pulley + the factory RS fan pulley anyway, the cost of the Clewett kit is about the same and perhaps a nicer bit.

Hmmm...I'm on my 3rd alternator belt just trying to get one the right size (classic little red riding hood story...first one from Pelican was too small, the second one from NAPA stretched until I ran out of shims to remove, and I just installed a 3rd from O'Reilly a few minutes ago that *seems* just right; despite being the same brand and part number as the one from NAPA. If I had $600 to burn this would be very much a welcome addition, I saw it a while back but didn't notice they had an option to retain AC. Having to almost completely undo the compressor to service something that seems to be somewhat failure prone is incredibly stupid. I can only imagine trying to do this roadside!

I've been a fan of the Clewett setup for years - its absolute bomb-proof reliability over v-belts is the main draw.

Someday.

The first one was! There was no way it was going to work, I could barely get it over the alternator shaft, let alone positioned properly on the pulley. The length was right but I wonder if it was cut just a bit wide. If #3 doesn't work out for me I'll try another Porsche belt, but so far so good..

Will do. For those that have the setup already, where did you get your AC belt. Clewett said it is smaller than the stock one.

Somebody mentioned 9Meister before too with a similar setup like the Clewett but I didn't find it on their website.
Is there something to it?

The clewett system is actually a copy of the 993 RSR setup.

$100 (or whatever the hub costs)? I thought you needed new pulley halves as well?

Edit: Just discovered what I was seeing on Pelican, the Rothsport pulley half, is an optional piece. Looks like I should probably do this mod while I'm replacing the alternator. Yeah, I should probably do that.
