That's a good looking engine there Bob....

Are you going to an electric PS pump?

Got the kit yesterday, unfortunately after 16 hours work days haven't had time to take pics or examine it much. First impressions are great though, looks to me very high quality. Pics to come!

Yes, Kevin did you ever get your 997 cup PS electric pump working? How's it look? Please send pics?

I wonder if this does much to put additional demand with an electric PS pump on a questionably under driven alternator with the Clewett setup. It does have a potential to limit a bit of drag on the crank by driving the PS pump electrically, but don't know if the load on the alternator now offsets this. If so, this would eliminate the need to change an impossible PS belt change without dropping the engine.

This also leads me to the question of going with fully distributorless (coil packs) for the ignition wires. Consider the less drag (and parts wear) that this could bring to engine. And I'd get another 0.25hp gain out of it. YES!!!

Clewett made some comments to this effect on their website. Perhaps they could chime in.

Guys - still not installed yet due to some damage that occurred at the shop. It is slated for installation early Jan. Also, I'm not installing a electric 997 pump.

Marc, I have the PS setup in my 993 build and will get some picts in the next day or so. As far as alternator drag I don't see this as a problem on my engine setup. A buddy of mine had his car dyno'd before and after adding the electric PS pump and he gained 8 whp after the pump was installed. If your running a street car the electric pump may be a different story. I run a Tilton electric trans cooler, PS pump and two MSD ignition modules along with the Motec. My battery weighs 11 lbs (Braile racing unit). I have not had any problems with this setup. My fan/alternator is a bit unusual (993TT unit ).

Has anyone put one of these serpentine belts on their Turbo? I get the impression clearances are even tighter but Clewett does claim to have a kit.

I'd speak directly to Clewett about that. They are good about replying to their emails.

Bob,

So where are the pics you promised? I'm curious to know (and see) more about your setup. A gain of 8 whp is quite significant for a "fairly" simple mod. Where'd you put the pump? Again, pictures would help.

PiB993, I have a Clewett set up on my 993 turbo. Like most a loss at the track prompted an improvement. Other than cost there are no downsides to running a serpentine belt. There are several issues with V belts. V belts were a design standard years ago, that no longer applies. Flat belts run cooler, and use less power.

I have prototyped several serpentine systems for the auto industry and they do have one issue, they do not tolerate misalignment. I say that since it speaks to how well Clewett builds their kit as there are issues with throwing a belt.

Are you implying that Clewett belts can misalign easily? Any way to minimize this?

Marc, NO I am stating if they did not get their design correct and machined the parts properly their kit would be chucking belts. I have nothing but the highest regard for the Clewett parts.
