Default Porsche Macan crossover

Personally, I can't stand cars like this, but from a corporate strategy standpoint, it's probably going to be an instant top seller for PCNA. Practically everyone can make use of one, and it works as an "only car" for many people:

Looks like a blob of Infiniti to me.

I won't be buying one (not that I could, even if I wanted), but I think this thing will be cooler than the Cayenne. Overall, Porsche today isn't really the brand we all fell in love with; it's just a sign of the times. But if making stuff like this allows them to afford building GT3 RSs and race a new prototype at LeMans, I'm all for it.

I think there may be one in my future .... I can't wait to see it in metal and I'm thinking two door ... that just hit's ALL my DD "need" buttons ..... BUT I have to say I really liked the first name better, Cajun (Cayenne Junior) although the dealer people pronounced it Kayooon .. whatever. How the Heck do you pronounce 'Macan'? Like Macon, Georgia? Or Ma-CAN like Rattan?? Either way WTF??

It's not really for me, but if it helps to maintain profit margins and keep the company alive then so be it.

I wouldn't mind one. Crossovers are a huge part of the car market now, Porsche is a car company so they are making one.

According to Porsche:

"The new sports car will have the name Macan, pronunciation (mah•chahn). The name is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger. It stands for power, litheness, fascination and dynamics."

Great. Another name no one will be able to pronounce.

Thanks Steve, but I'm still confused .. am I just old? Dense? Both? Are they saying ma-Chan? Like Charley Chan? or ma-Kahn .. like Genghis Kahn? Or do I have it completely wrong .... again!

I'm not excited about this new model either. It's basically a glorified Audi Q5, which
is a glorified VW Tiguan, which is just a VW Golf..

Incorrect. The Audi Q3, Tiguan, and Golf are built on the same platform. The Q5 is on the same platform as the A4 and A5 (MLP), and having driven both the Tiguan and Q5 (and I own a 2012 Q5), I can assure you the difference is night and day. The Q5 really does drive like an A4.

If Porsche is going to have an SUV, I'd rather see it in that package than the behemoth Cayenne!

My bad! Could've sworn they were based on the same platform. I'm still
pretty sure the Macan will be an Audi-Porsche badge exercise..Here's the test
mule from a couple of weeks ago:

My mind has been recently opening up to these "weird" Porsches.

I can not function day to day in a 2 seat sports car and this thing will probably blow away anything in it's category the same way the Cayenne and Panamera did. A great accessory to a 911 but when looking at it as a 911 replacement, no Fn way.

The current Cayenne is based on a modified Q5 platform so this new model will be easy to slot into production on the same production line.

This looks like BMW's own crossover platform - which hasn't been a big success for them - to be polite (as in whats it for? Worse of both worlds, Why bother?).. That said, when they came out with the Cayenne the was a huge outcry. And the Cayenne has been a wild success. So what do I know?
